Brief smoking and vaping cessation advice for Aboriginal People
Who is this module for?
This module is designed for health professionals who support Aboriginal people who smoke or vape, including Aboriginal health workers, nurses, medical officers and allied health professionals.
It will help you build the knowledge and confidence to provide culturally appropriate smoking and vaping cessation support.
What you'll learn
This module will help you build your knowledge and confidence in providing evidence-based smoking and vaping cessation support.
You will learn how to:
- Use the Ask, Advise, Help (AAH) model to understand a person’s needs and provide appropriate cessation advice and support.
- Understand and explain the different medicines available to manage nicotine withdrawal and support quitting.
- Understand how nicotine dependence can affect medication use and treatment.
- Explain the role of support services, including Quitline, and how to connect people with further help.

If you work for NSW Health, it’s recommended to complete the modules through My Health Learning so it is recorded in your learning history. You will receive a certificate on completion, and the modules may contribute towards your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
