Wow Ros, 4 years is great. I am sorry that you still get cravings though. If only we knew that the cravings would be over in 3 months, even a year it would be easier to accept that we are now non-smokers. Some closure to our mission.

If you still get cravings maybe it is because you still Desire to smoke. Nicotine is out of the system after 3 to 5 days, but the brainwashing and how it affected our dopamine needs to be reversed. If you understand how nicotine made the user its slave, risked health, took from our social lives, and the utter truth is that we paid to have cigarettes that did absolutely nothing for us. Let go of the desire, and the cravings will follow.

If you truly despise the cigarette and acknowledge all the grief it has cost you for many years, then it is not the fear of becoming a non-smoker, or letting go. It may be Fear. Fear that you will never know when it will sneak attack and if you will be ready for it. Fear that you may relapse. Maybe you are waiting to know that that won't happen. But when will you know? When will you know that your worst fear won't happen? You can't be sure unless it happens, and that is the last thing you want. Theoretically, you are waiting for something you hope will never happen.

Enjoy your new found freedom. Give yourself credit for a great job done. Look ahead , not behind or over your shoulder. Next time a craving pops up, just smile and say be gone with you... I am a Happy Non-Smoker. Believe and you will be free!

P.S Follow Red-67. He is also in the right mind set.

Congrats Ros, a great achievement. I learned the hard way that I am a single puff away from becoming a full time smoking addict again and resistance to cravings is paramount. Happened to me twice in the past. Another friend stayed quit for 8 years and succumbed after a single puff. Stay vigilant. After my two slip ups in the past I am now practicing NOPE concept- not one puff ever. The good thing is that now even when I rarely get a craving it’s a tiny nano craving unlike these huge ones i had in the beginning of my quit. All the best.

Hi Roz from western NSW. I'm some what shocked but not surprised at the scare tactics from some of our members toward you. I encountered similar psychological jargon from those north Americans too in my early days as well.. However, the good news is that because of their stern words and instructions I remain smoke-free for almost 5 years because of them.

thank you.

and

may we remain smoke-free for ever because "we dont smoke"
