Not well

Hi everyone,
This is my first time on here and I’m so blown away by all your amazing success stories. To cut a long story short, I was diagnosed with a breast abscess, spent a week in hospital, two aspirations and septicaemia. I was advised to quit smoking as that increases my chance of it coming back. I’m not well at the moment a I just been discharged and still in somewhat pain. I want to quit but I’m finding it hard to come to terms with it a I’m feeling so weak and crap atm with fever, etc. The side effects whilst my body is like this would just make it worse what can I do to quit considering the circumstances?

Sorry to hear you’re not well! I am on day 8 of quitting smoking and I have found NRT gum works for me. As you said you want to quit, maybe set a quit date, only you know when it is time for you to quit, sounds like it’s soon for you too. You have taken your first step joining this forum, give it a go, don’t knock yourself too hard if you fall off the bandwagon, it will just make you more determined so jump back on of you come off, nothing ventured nothing gained. I also made a list of why I don’t want to smoke to read every time I was tempted which has also been a good delay tactic and reenforcement of my decision to quit when I’m feeling a little doubtful (when the addiction is ruling my head).. good luck with it and I hope you feel better soon! :)

HI THERE M.R.!
I hope you quit smoking soon. You have a very good reason to quit, but any smoker does.
Please read the Book Allen Carr Easy way to quit smoking. You will understand your addiction to nicotine and it is mind blowing how you don't even want to smoke (or miss them) once you read this book.
Good luck. This forum is where you learn and get support from caring friends.🐟

Use this link to open the the book please. In your situation, I think that is the best we can offer you at the moment.
Otherwise, call the hospital and your doctor about other options.
Hope you feel well soon.

Hi Special K
I hope you feel better soon! I quit in December for a number of reasons, and found I did not have any physical withdrawal because I was sick when I quit. I know you are not feeling well, and your medical situation is stressful, but if at all possible, you really do want to refrain from smoking. I used the nicotine losenges for a couple days previously, and then when I got sick, I didn’t even want those anymore. I did read the book mentioned above, and it really did help a lot!! You can do this! You just need to figure out when the best time is for you. We are here when you are ready🤗

Welcome M.R Good responses for you to consider, just Keep Reading, Stay close to the forum and choose a Quit Date. Check everything out with your Doctor who knows your personal health history. I hope you feel better soon.

Truely hope you are on the mend soon
Sending thoughts and best wishes 😊

Hi Happiness...
You are in my circle of prayers as well! I am so sorry to hear of your medical situation and am hoping that you will make a speedy recovery!! Please take care, rest and get well🤗

Quit while you have the incentive. You only have to do it once. The four D's are;
Deep Breathe - take three deep breathes
Do Something Else
Delay
Drink Water - sip water
The fifth D is
Don't smoke

Hi everyone. I apologise for taking so long to respond - unfortunately I become septic again but this time I almost had gangrene on the breast and went into emergency surgery just last night. They took out 350mls just from the breast 🤢 I didn’t quit smoking when I first posted but you al helped me to cut down so thank you so much. I didn’t feel like I could quit at that time because I was in so much agony and the breast surgeon wasn’t listening to me and not making the best clinical judgement despite being able to see the breast getting worse and fevers developing again even though I was on antibiotics. I guess in my mind it was all too much trying to get through all that and quit at my weakest. After visiting another hospital they were absolutely mortified seeing how bad I was and went in for emergency surgery and I’m proud to say that last night was my last cigarette 😊 i am using a patch to help and I’m having massive cravings but I’m trying all your tips and it’s helping so much. I went downstairs today and as quick as I could I rushed upstairs so I don’t walk out to smoke 😂 it actually made me giggle and think “geez, how did I let a little sh:tthing like that control my life.” I won’t let it control me. I won’t lie, I worried when I get home and back into routine that I would want smoking to be apart of that but I have to remain strong. When you associate EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING with smoking, how do you change it all to stop? This will mean no cooking, no food, no coffee, no phone calls, no waking up just sleep 😴 😂 holy moly it’s going to be hard
