Quitting in Quarantine

Posted in Getting started
schedule 11 Oct 2021

My husband and I married 18 Sept. Since then, we have been non-stop on the go packing all my stuff into storage and travelling. We arrived in Sydney on Oct 8, and - obviously - I haven't had a smoke since we got on the plane in San Francisco. I've had the occasional craving, but I've managed to curb that with food or chewing gum. My problem is that I'm fantasizing about the day we get out of quarantine and lighting up.

I can't smoke while in quarantine - it's illegal and that's probably the only thing keeping me from doing it at the moment - but how do I stay quit when it's no longer against the law for me to light up?

It is very difficult to quit smoking unless you want to or I guess , if in a unique situation. I can only suggest that you join us and read and learn why it is better to become a non-smoker and to come to want to be one.

Seeing others quit on a site like this gave me the belief needed to make me give it an honest attempt. I even found it easy with the right mindset.

I will post this free link to Allan Carr's free book. It helps most people immensely. It sounds like you need it most at this time. I hope you have success with it. Read every word, don't skim. Understand what he is saying. Let us know how you are fairing.

Hi'tornado.

The Allen Carr book is very good, I did have to read it 3 times, mind you. lol

Allow Allen to persuade you and he will convince you to stop smoking>

I highly recommend it,

Welcome to Australia!!

Welcome. In the past I've quit but restarted twice and each quit was really unpleasant. I hated the cravings. After a year or two after cravings were gone and done with I figured that one puff can't be too bad. What a mistake. One puff and I was hooked again.

If you want to quit once and for all, you have to become a non smoker in your mind. Smoking is mind thing which in reality does nothing good for you. NOPE - not one puff ever again.

Cheers and good luck.

I want to quit. It's a gross habit, my partner hates kissing an ashtray, it's not doing my health any favors, and I hate being the one left out of convos because I had to "pop outside" for a few minutes. I WANT to take advantage of having been quit for 2 weeks when I get out of quarantine and never restart, but at the same time, I'm having fantasies about lighting up as soon as I can.

I've downloaded the PDF, and will read it before we leave, but I'm not sure how that will help the craving.
