My story

I have tried many times to quit the stinky cigs. This time I'm determined to do it. Today is day 12 no smokes. I went to hospital short of breath and really sick. Already had been diagnosed with emphysema 3 years ago. Well the doctor said to me that if I didn't quit the smokes I won't be here in 12 months. That was the kick up the butt I needed. I want to see my grandson and future grand children grow up too.

Hi TinaS. Robyn is 100% correct and pretty much taken the words right out of my mouth. That's a good thing! Read and re read the words! Scare tactics have never worsed on cigarette packaging, advertising, etc...we all feel that it would never happen to me. Unfortunately it has happened to you , and you are my first of an " or else " case. Many just succumb like two of my mother(s) in laws.... yes two of them.. one of which i never knew, the other before i knew quitting smoking was actually doable.
There is hope , even for you, as much as you may doubt it. I never thought that i could quit. There comes a time where we take it seriously and make our best and final effort and to our surprise is much easier than we thought, once we have the motivation and the right mindset. It is totally amazing how our bodies can recover from decades of abuse. Please believe that there is hope to see your great grandchildren, and most importantly ...for them to get to know you. It isn't all about you you know. Think about it.
You have come to the right place, a great site, and a great, warm, understanding and supportive community. You need not take this journey alone. We are here and we understand and support you every step of the way. If you need advice or to vent or advice, we are here.
Like Robyn said, read Allan Carr's free book by clicking on my name and getting the link that i posted. Read stories, research on line everything you can about nicotine, how you became addicted. Forgive yourself and learn how you can fight back and take back control of your life. Many of us have.
Mindset is key. Know that cigarettes have done nothing but cause misery and lose in your life. Being free is wonderful. Don't doubt and feel you are giving up anything because you are not. Do not fear this journey but embrace it. You can be free. You can heal. You will have proof in a few days. I promise you.
The body can heal itself. The mind is even more powerful. It protected us while letting us invade ourselves willingly with nicotine. Imagine the power of mind and body working together.
We have been brainwashed to believe nicotine addiction is almost so strong as to be invincible. Nothing could be further from the truth. Nicotine is out of our systems in 72 hours. It is the habit that is hardest to break. What to do with the time, our hands, our thoughts......
Read, Learn, devise a plan...... think positive and believe....... yes you too, can quit smoking.

Thank you. I've got this I hadn't had any in 12 days and certainly don't ant any. This time I'm determined to be successful.

That is so wonderful to hear. You can do this!!! Let us know if you need help.

I hope you are not feeling deprived and missing those smokes. It sounds like you have no choice in it. When you dont miss them, you will know that the filthy old habit has been defeated.
That Allen Carr book is a must read. It can turn your thinking around if you still have some doubts or fears?
Breathe Easy

If my doctor told me I have less than 12 months to live if I don’t quit smoking I would listen to him or her especially considering that quitting is very doable. It’s difficult in the beginning but as each day passes by it gets easier and easier. You can beat this addiction because if we could so can you. Good luck TinaS.

I understand what Red is saying. Smoking is stupid. We have become enslaved to it and to justify our smoking we con ourselves into believing that we are weak victims. even worse, we conviced ourselves that we liked it while we hacked up a lung.
Victims , yes as we never chose to become addicted. We are not weak anymore. We have power in the knowledge we have accumulated on this site and by the power we have through computers. We know the addiction can be beat. We just need to believe that we can do it.
Look around..... so much proof.........

Eat well; live well; and enjoy so many other things that you can have or do now.
