Two Years and Counting.

Hi Everyone,
It has been two years since i have quit smoking. First the good news. I no longer have to see an oncologist for all the nodules in my lungs as after 2 years my body has been able to remove all visible nodules. Secondly it has been 2 years and there is no longer any cancer of my bladder after surgery and chemo. I had smoked for 38 years when i was diagnosed with all these health issues. I was 52 years old at the time and was not prepared to die or suffer terrible health issues. I quit smoking three days after the diagnosis and have not smoked since. It was extremely difficult and I miss tobacco today. It still smells good to me. what does not appeal to me is an oxygen tank, constant coughing and wheezing. It can be done and it does get easier. Life without tobacco now seems normal. It took a long time to get to that point. for those thinking this is my destiny to die with a cigarette in hand it does not have to be that way. You can quit and you will feel so much better. ill check back in another two years with another update.

Hi Andrew_P. I am amazed at what damage smoking does. You are proof that quitting can resolve a lot of issues. You had to face some pretty drastic issues and you are on the upswing now, thanks to your being smart and quitting the addiction. You should be very proud of yourself.
Your post was awesome. It always helps to hear how wonderful people are doing once they make up their minds to quit. Your story shows that smoking can be very dangerous to your health. You read about it, your hear about it, but it is seldom people actually post how quitting really helps to improve ones health,.. personal first hand knowledge.
I went to the dentist today for my teeth cleaning. The hygienist said my gums did not bleed at all and it is a direct result of quitting smoking!
I'm sure there are a bunch more health benefits we can't even see. I really like when you state that, "Life without tobacco now seems normal". Very encouraging for us beginners.
Thanks for sharing your story. I am inspired by your words and more confident I have a LOT more health benefits coming my way! Keep up the great work, and keep posting as your positivity seems to be contagious!

Congratulations for so many reasons to have stopped smoking. Im of the same age and gosh, I feel lucky that, having been a heavy smoker on and off for many years, (more on than Off), that I seem to have escaped with only mild COPD.
I welcome you to return to this site sooner than once every 2 years.

Whoops , Let me rephrase that.
Thank you for highlighting so many reasons to have stopped smoking. Im of the same age and gosh, I feel lucky that, having been a heavy smoker on and off for many years, (more on than Off), that I seem to have escaped with only mild COPD.

And, Congratulations for stopping your smoking 2 years ago!

Yes, please join us more frequently with your words of wisdom and encouragement. Amazing first hand stories like yours really give others incentive and a belief that there is hope. No matter how long we smoked, the benefits are seen immediately. Maybe not miraculous, but the body is better able to cope and function properly with out the poisons and with a supply of fresh oxygen.
Congratulations on your 2 year milestone. Be proud of yourself and continue on happily on the right path.
