Hanging In There

Posted in Staying quit
schedule 26 Mar 2020

So I'm now 66 days smoke free. The cravings still come & go but I've been off the patches for 10 days & haven't noticed an increase in the cravings. I did 4 weeks of the step 1 patches & 4 weeks of the step 2 patches. I've got a weeks supply of the step 3 patches but will only use them if the cravings get really bad. I certainly don't consider myself an ex smoker yet, I think a part of mind thinks it's just a break I'm having (I did quit for 9 months abt 20 years ago). I've had dreams when I'm smoking again & in the dream I'm really angry at myself for caving in. When I wake & realise I'm still smoke free I feel so good, & that drives me not to give in to the urge. So to anyone who wants to quit do it, it will make you feel so much better about yourself.

Well done tigerjim!

I remember those dreams well and the relief I felt when I woke up still smokefree. Somebody once added at bit of humour to it and told me I'd only had a 'pillow slip'. Having said that quitting is a serious business and I commend you for encouraging others to start their journey based on your experience of feeling better. I can echo that from a standpoint of over 8 yrs nicotine free.

There was also the joy I felt when I realised I had been awake for at least 10 minutes and I wasn't craving a cigarette because in the past the first thing I did before even getting out of bed was to light up.

66 days is amazing tigerjim so keep going because you are worth it!

You are doing great and will remain doing so easier with the right mindset. Make up your mind that this change is worth every temporary hardship. It does get easier!

Right there with you tigerjim. I'm at day 64 and a lot I've found is a Jedi mind game. The advice given of not Wanting versus can't have is spot on! I mean we CAN have one....the store is right down the street. But we DON'T WANT or NEED one for all the reasons we initially quite! We are no longer a slave to anyone or anything! You WILL do it and stay strong buddy!

Nuts is right.

I gave myself no option to a single puff on the 6th of feb. I had no more excuses to smoke from that day. No matter what- I havent smoked from that moment. Its the mindset that has made me smoke-free for almost 2 months, but, the same mindset will remain ForeEverMore.

NOPE (not one puff ever)
