"Smokers don't grow old - they die young"
8 weeks today I have been free of the beast.
My Nanna died of emphysema aged 60. Such a nasty nasty way to die. She was on oxygen, and once she actually set fire to herself because she lit up with the oxygen still attached. Didn't stop me smoking.
My mother had a massive stroke aged 64. She lives in a nursing home now, she has no quality of life. She is 68 now, but might as well be dead. Didn't stop me smoking.
Turning 50 stopped me - it was a bit of a wake up call that the danger zone (my 60's) was fast approaching.
My grandchild being on the way stopped me - I don't want my grandbabies to see me die so young, and so horribly. I want to be around for all the children of my children.
Life is too good to waste one more moment of it in isolation from the people that matter most to me in the world.
We are both in our fifties. Both of us have witnessed family suffer and die prematurely. Lets stop the chain reaction here.
I have stopped for me and hope I'm showing the best way to my children and my children's children too!

I wish people would take the time to read Allan Carr and get a true understanding of nicotine. Instilling the believe that nicotine addiction can be beaten instead of still believing it is very difficult can save lives. Wanting to quit rather than dreading it makes it much easier. The thing to fear is ending up a stroke victim. I am so sorry to her of that Lando and I hope that I have escaped that fate. I am so thankful that my hubby and my daughter took my example and quit smoking. I am proud of all of you who joined us and finally believed in yourselves. I am proud of my accomplishment and of being a part of such an amazing community here.
