The beginning was a chest infection,. when trying to smoke it made me cough like there was no tomorrow

Forced to stop for 2 days, after that I thought I just as well continue staying off them

One thing led to another and before long I was ready to break my 12 day record that lasted 50 years

Time quietly drifted on,the craves kept tapping into my soul yet I stayed smoke free

With absolute astonishment I find I am now 1 year smoke free, this goes to show that stopping smoking is within anybodys grasp,if a dedicated and lifelong smoker like me can crack the quit then its open season on everyone to beat the smokes

Congrats. An awesome accomplishment. You are one of the few successful quitters and should be really proud of yourself. Cheers.

Hi Welsh Des. Yes, anyone can quit smoking. They just have to find what thinking works for their quit. So many different stories on this site. Too bad about 96% never return. I knew that stat when I started and decided I would be one of the 4%. Of course I have tried over the past 4 years to offer hope to fellow quitters as do others on this site. A few know me as I do them. Feel sad for those who fell off the wagon and by the wayside. Why go through those first few minutes, hours etc of sheer agony and seeming deprivation only to err down the track? Don't get it but would not dare to disappoint my supporters, nor me. Be proud and loud whenever you achieve a milestone.

A Big Congratulations for a Wonderful Life Change. I wish all that came to this site would apply themselves and believe that no matter how long or how much you smoke, you can quit smoking. I know that joining a quit group like this can give you the confidence to succeed. It was a big factor for me, because understanding the addiction, what to expect and how to deal with your feelings are important and knowing and believing that you can do it is key.

Thank you all for the nice replies,I still get cravings, less intense as time goes by and I am confident about saying smoking free

I wish all of you and all others in this community all the very best in the very serious and often very difficult pursuit of battling against the smoking

I think having others to listen to and sometimes help in maintaining a quit is a great help, that is especially so because we can all understand the dedication and effort that is so often required having been under the cosh of the smoking ourselves
