From the Mouths of Babes..
Hi all,
Only recently had my first heart attack, 48 years old and a smoker for over 30 years, waited in hospital for the angiogram results only to find out that they could not stent it and needed a double bypass open heart surgery, this absolutely put the fear of god into me, at my age, no family history of heart attacks and several Drs have suggest to give up smoking over the years, i'm not overweight and my cholesterol is just below average so i'm putting it down to my bad habit of smoking.
I decided to chuck the ciggies away the night before surgery and that was 11 days ago now, BUT the most motivating factor was hearing from my 7yo nephew who was talking to his Mum, my sister and said "I hope Uncle Muzz gets out of hospital soon and doesn't die, He's like my 2nd Dad and I love him very much"
Of course this made my sister just burst into tears as she was dealing with her only Big Bro just having had major surgery too, but, it's ME imaging those words coming out of his little mouth that will stay with me forever, I'll never pick up another cigarette, ever.
I think of my sister, my nephew, all the surgeons and nurses here at GCUH that worked around the clock to give me a 2nd chance at life, I just couldn't deal with the guilt of accepting all that help and then turning around and begin smoking again.
Use whatever motivation you need to help beat this horrible addiction, It's early days for me yet but learning to actually hate the addiction and how it's controlled my life in the past has been so important so far, Onwards and Upwards Ladies and Gents xoxo

Hello GoldCoastMuzz. Many good reasons to quit smoking. Good going for your 11 days smoke free! You have a great attitude and motivation. That is a touching story and I hope you recover fully and quickly. You will beat this, the determination is in your post! Never quit on quitting! Best wishes to you.

Hi Muzz,
Thank you for your posting mate. Very touching one and wishing you well in your recovery.

Hello GoldCoastMuzz.
While we have always known the hazards of smoking , it is not until we stare our mortality in the face to take the scare out of quitting smoking. Even then some fear quitting more. Such a terrible addiction.
When we look at it in a different light and gain belief that we CAN quit smoking we do. We make excuses to validate our addiction. We did not choose to smoke forever, and we can choose change.
Choose freedom, choose to breathe fresh air, choose better health, choose to live longer and choose to make those who love us lives easier not harder.
You could feel forced into this quit, but you choose to look at it a different way.
You have been given a DO OVER. This attitude makes it ever so much easier to endure a bit of discomfort for long time benefits.
Read, learn and please post often. We learn through each other and are here to support each other every step of the way. Learn the mindset and earn your freedom and longevity. You deserve it.
Just remember it is a CHOICE, it means freedom and Pride. No one ever regrets quitting smoking. Don't let your adoring nephew emulate you take up smoking.

Hi Uncle Muzz😊 mate it sure sounds like a miracle that you are here? Keep coming buddy so your nephew can get to keep his second dad with him and your sis gets to keep her bro and you get your second chance at this wonderful life 🙌♥️🙏
