An ultra-happy call from my granddaughter

After 53 years of smoking daily I quit cold-turkey on July 12, 2012. Since that day I have battled numerous problems that in one way or another sprang from my 53 year addiction to nicotine. I have written about most of the negative results from smoking that I have had to deal with. If you are interested in reviewing them just enter TheOldPhart in the "Search entire site box at the top of the page and click on the magnifying-glass icon. You will also note that there have been numerous good and positive things that have resulting from my quitting. Well, the day before yesterday I received a call from my second eldest granddaughter. She called to tell me that I was going to be a great-grandfather for the third time. I have to tell the world that she made me happier than you could imagine with that news. I am now 73 years old and have completed 7 years smoke-free as of this past July 12th. If you read all of my previous entries, you will understand just how lucky I am to still be here to tell my story and offer updates. This most recent call from my granddaughter is an excellent example of why you should quit and why you should stay quit. Regardless of the tough spots . . . regardless of the low spots . . . life always seem to hold some form of ultra-happy motivation in reserve for us. My chances of living to hold my third great-grandchild are far better now than they were prior to July 12, 2012. Make no mistake about it . . . you can quit and you can stay quit. I am the hardest hard-case you will ever run across and I promise you that YOU CAN QUIT! Do the search I suggested above and take the short time required to read my postings. You won't be sorry.

Absolutely wonderful news, TheOldPhart. So happy for you. Congrats on 7 years!! That's great! What an accomplishment!

I enjoyed reading your entire stories for the second time and hung on every word. I do hope others will take the time to read your words of wisdom so they might be spared the suffering. You may have lost partial function of your heart, but it is still a big one full of love and hope and laughter. I am glad you saw your 70th birthday without lighting your beard on fire....lol. You do have a way with words. Please take the time at least once or twice a year to post and have the newcomers read your amazing story. You are a very lucky man and we are lucky to have you spare us your time. Thank you!

Wonderful news on both fronts Congratulations. The knowledge of great harm wasnt there at the time of those old Marlborough Ads. Even old repeat movies today still hail the cigarette as being part of a rich, clever and super cool society. I hope the younger set dont see these glamourous actors as role models and I hope they will read your stories. Thank you so much for posting TheOldPhart

Hi TheOldPhart. So good of you to visit again and share your success and wisdom. I am up to 39 months and welcome news of those further down the track who continue to abstain. Sometimes it gets "lonely" after a few years wondering if those from the past are still succeeding. Besides, we all know how incredibly easy it is to fail with just one puff. I often think that the longer we abstain perhaps we may become complacent and truly believe that we can beat just one puff... Heard so many stories about what happens when people err, just once. Always on guard... For you, over 7 years obviously means you can celebrate life and living.

Hi Lia......been a long time but i am from your old class and still hanging on. Three yrs and 3 mths now. Will not go back. Congratulations old phart .Cheers all.
