Major Surgery

I quit because I had to have major abdominal surgery. I spent 9 days in the hospital so I couldn't smoke. I wasn't about to go back to it when I was discharged. I look at my 10 in scar and know that I can't smoke again.

I should add that the above mentioned abdominal surgery waa directly related to smoking. I had an aorta that was completely blocked. I was getting almost no blood flow to my legs. They had to graft a new section in place. I can now walk and drive without pain but that time in the hospital was really scary.
I have been a non-smoker since December 10, 2018.

Sorry to hear that but glad you are doing better.
Take this as a blessing in disguise that though u have to reach this serious stage but it's so good that u r on the quitter not a smoker anymore

Wow Beth that horrible thing to happen! Hope your better now. Congrats on the non smoking. Its tough no matter the reason for quitting.

You had a good reason to Quit.
How long were you smoking?
Are you free of any NRT/?
You have made a good decision to Quit and you'll find plenty of support here to help whenever you need it.
Glad you made it here Beth

As bad as it was Beth, you are here, a lucky one. Some don't get warnings and a choice to act on it. I am glad you are doing well and look forward to your participation in the community. All the best on your journey!

I was on NRT for the first 6 weeks. The last two weeks have been, for lack of a better phrase, cold turkey.

You are a real trooper Beth. You are still in the ring fighting something that can only do you and your family harm. It is not an easy fight nor is it a pain-free fight. It is however well worth the effort. Seeing the battle you are waging makes me feel proud for you. What you have accomplished so far is no small thing Beth. Smoking may have bruised you. It may even have bloodied you . . . but, it has not beaten you . . . nor will it! You have the courage and strength to keep putting one foot in front of the other. I hear your words Beth and your strength shines through those words . . . a strength that screams "I will not allow nicotine to steal what quality of life I have remaining because it belongs to me and to my family!" Hang tough Lady Beth . . . hang tough!
