I saw my own very close friend dying due to cigarette

My very close friend died after being amputated on the right foot. He lived five years since then. Doctor advised him not to smoke. But he refused. Finally the left leg also started to have blood clotting which led to gangrene. He had to be amputated again. I stayed in the hospital with him all the time. The surgery took eight hours and they wanted to save his left leg. He woke up after some 12 hours. I still remember everything. He promised me that we will quit smoking together once he got out of the hospital. He did not make it, unfortunately. My friend died on Sunday October 8, 2017. The doctor said better not treat a smoker because they make you fail. I don't want to be a loser for my own health. I have to quit now before it is too late and I am on the hospital bed. Sooner or later this will happen to everyone but as a smoker I don't want to suffer more and be the cause of many of the illness I will suffer from. Above all I love my kids and I want to see them growing. My friend left his two kids age ten and eight. If I don't stick to my decision, there is no guarantee that I will not not repeat the same mistake as my friend. I chose cold turkey because I don't want to have even one puff anymore.

Brooky, you have so much to live for. I have just gone cold turkey, using Alan Carr, even thoigh it's not really cold turkey, because he makes you realise that you want to be free from smoking. When you finally do stoo, it feels good - have only had a vouple of anxious moments - listening to it over and over again

I agree, There's nothing good about smoking and you have a lot to gain by giving it up, you've made the right move my friend, I too have lost a good friend to smoking, Her Mother is in Hospital after a massive Stroke and will never recover and my Good Friend her Son is still running around picking up Butts when he cant afford to buy more, I have another Friend with lung cancer has had 2 Thirds of his left lung removed after 2 operations and he's still Smoking too, unfortunately, It will Kill them too and I have been pretty sick myself from it too which has prompted me to Have a good look around me and realize what is going on and it will happen to me as well if I kept going. I have too much to live for and maybe by doing this, I might help my Friends and Family to see what it is doing to them before this horrible addiction becomes there demise. Hang in there mate its not going to be easy but the benefits will make it worthwhile. You will get lots of support here and you will be delighted by how many people will rally behind you in support as my friend Red says "Set yourself free" and join us in this remarkable challenge. Ron

Thank you so much dear friends. It is really so reassuring to have friends like you. It has been almost full two days without a puff. When I got your messages it was like angels talking to me from heaven. I was so excited and more determined with my decision not to have another puff. I am telling the world that I am quitting cigarette and I can quit!!! Thank you once again. Thank you Weewillem, thank you Ron, thank you Red. I promise I will stick to my words "never another puff again".

Hi Brooky. What a wake up call for you. So sad but your friend's memory should be revered as you get on the cold turkey quit trail. I did not have such a motivating influence but after 880 something days cold turkey, it no longer hurts. Being able to breathe is a bonus. Enjoy precious memories of your friend and make sure you are being seen to do what may prolong your own life. Your departed friend will be relieved his decisions have been a wake up call for you.

Dear Lia, thank you! I am on Day 2 today I still haven't touched that killer stick. I am going strong, reading more and more. Good people like are really reliefs at such time of need. Thank you all! Your moral help is really very important to keep the motivation. You understand very well what I am now going through. I will never let down myself, my children, my wife and all the friends and families supporting me in voyage towards the beautiful smoke-free world. I don't mind dying natural death but I don't want to be the cause of my death.

Hang in there Brooky you can do it 1 Day at a Time will get you there you have put the worst 2 Days behind you Day 3 will be here before you know it Keep coming back and read some more it will help keep your head in the right place and typing will keep your hands busy, keeping your hands busy and your mind Focused leaves less time for "The Nicoteen Monster" to Bug you. Your Wife and Family will be Glad you Did this and where all proud of you too, Go Brooky Go you can do it. Ron

Thank you Ron, Thank you all, I am now on my third day. I am feeling very relaxed. No more strong temptation. Just slight nostalgic feeling. I am going to the places I used to go without smoking. I am sitting next to smokers without even feeling the urge or the craving. I have never criticized any smoker so far; I even did not tell them that I quitted. I just feel sympathy for them because they don't understand they are prisoners of this killer false friend. I will be telling them soon.. I like the group here, you are my guardian angels.

Where Right behind you Brook It doesn't help anyone if you preach at them everyone hates that especially the ones that know your right I try to stay away from it I can help more people by showing them what I can do and lead by example it's sad but that's the way it is but if we don't stop we cant help the ones we care about and that would be a tragedy

Good luck Brooke. Heartbreaking experience. Consider chewing gum. Helps to eliminate hand to mouth motor reflex motion.

Thank you Ron, thank you Safe. I am not on my sixth day. Still clean, no problem. I even had some alcoholic drink over the weekend. I did not even have any craving. I really hate that thing. I am not thinking about it any more. My body is recovering very well. I have started to eat good and the taste of food is now delicious. I feel like preaching and Ron you are right! My smoking friends do not want even to listen.
