1 year quit

schedule 15 Aug 2021

Hi all I hope you are all doing well, it’s been a while since I’ve logged on and chatted,on August the 2nd I reached my year first year of quitting smoking, and I haven’t touched one or even came close to doing it through my year,it’s been a tough old ride too through the year, with lockdown, covid,God how sick am I of hearing that word lol,but I thought I’d share a post with you all,and maybe will inspire new quitters to believe, believe and see that it can be done, and to hopefully gain inspiration to carry them foreward.in the early days boy it was tough, the first two weeks were the worst ,I was coping ok until the first few days passed and all the nicotine had left my body, that’s when the challenge started,it was a big mind game between me and Mr Nicotine,And I won,and the reason I won is because I wanted to win,I wanted to quit,I put half a stone in weight on in the first 6 months of stopping because I took cooking up as a distraction and boy did I eat some food lol,but I’ve lost it again now as I’ve always ran so that helped me, so in 12 months I’ve became a non smoker, not a bad cook, and a whole lot fitter, and in my book that’s a result,so to all of you who are just starting out on your journey, how I see it is ,you Decide to quit ,set your date, form a plan and have ideas of things your going to do to distract you when times get tough and the craving peaks,I always used to clean up,and I also had a water colour painting on the go at the time and that was a good escape too, walking is good, and always tell yourself every day NOPE …not one puff ever a fantastic mantra, you couldn’t have came to a better place for support in stopping than this forum, the kind support is second to none, and to each and every one of you who supported me through my quit,a big big Thankyou, for the kind words and inspiration to succeed ❤️X

Thank you Squire for supporting my words of wisdom on the Quest to Stop the Smoking.

You said it all in your opening comment today..

It's all about "Belief"

When they are ready to Smoke that last one and really believe that was their last one, it becomes real! And not just a pipe dream?

Congratulations mate.

Hi New chapter. Congratulations on making it over a year. YES, yes, yes... your words are inspiring to me. I always get charged up when people like yourself have "been there, done that" in which I know I someday will be there too.

I WILL believe! I will believe it can be done, even for me!!! You won the challenge with Mr Nicotine even through tough times. Some have it easier than others and I am imagining I won't be one of the lucky ones having an easy time of it so your words are of great value to me.

Like you have advised: "Form a plan and have ideas of things your going to do to distract you when times get tough and the craving peaks".. I have done some cleaning and "saved" more cleaning for my future and I even have a puzzle. As for the weight, I could use some additional pounds but food does taste yummy these days:-)

I am somewhat of a newbie, but a repeating "newbie" and I think about if I just followed NOPE many "newbie" times ago how much further I would be today. Well, I'm here as a "newbie" and I am determined to outgrow that name!

It is especially encouraging hearing about success stories. Thank you for sharing and giving inspiration. Not One Puff Ever !!!

Thankyou for your kind words Nope, you can do it, mr Nicoline is a Dominator,a bully,he tells you when he wants you to smoke and we just do it,ok Sir Nick I’ll do it right now I’ll do as I’m told we tell ourselves ,but just like a bully in real life, when we stand up to it and say NO I’m not doing that, the Bully will put up a phsychological battle to test your weakness and resolve, and when you don’t back down they go away and leave you alone,This is what Nicotine is doing to you at the minute,You’ve stood up to it and said “No” “no more,I’m not smoking so you can go away” and it don’t like it,so it’s trying to bully your mind into going back and giving in,DONT BACK DOWN to the bully MR Nicotine and he will go away!! IT DOES GET EASIER!! And when you pass through these early stages, the way you will feel is mind blowing, Mr Nick has crawled back into his hole ,and your free,BELEIVE AND WIN Nope,it’s the best feeling in the world 👍💯💯💯👏👏👏 Continue the Great work and good luck

Wonderful hearing from you New Chapter. 1 year already, and it seems like yesterday to me. I always knew that you would have no problem with your resolve and excellent mindset. You were always there to encourage your mates and helping these newbies too is just great!

Newbie isn't such a bad term. It takes guts to make the change to a non-smoker. Many don't find the courage to try at all. Still it is nice to be able to claim a little more experience and to take pride in an amazing accomplishment. Only amazing because we didn't really believe that we could.

Success stories mean so much as you well know Steve. Thanks for sharing your milestone and giving great incentive to all. I am glad you are happy with your new way of life Chef. Don't forget to check in once in a while at least to remember NOPE. Not One Puff Ever.

Hello Happiness,Thankyou for your kind words,it was this forum and the lovely people on it that taught me that it was possible to succeed in my quitting process,I knew I didn’t want to smoke anymore but beyond that I had no direction of how to,I never realised there were ways in which I could manage my quit or that there were ways to make life easier along the way,but reading all of the inspiring posts on the forum tought me that it was achievable The “NOPE” mantra is engrained in my head so deep it will be there forever ,I believe that when your truly ready to quit you will in the end with the right preparation and mindset, you Happiness ,Amongst others was a Massive inspiration to me when I needed it most and for that I am eternally Gratefull Thankyou 😊x

Fantastic achievement, New Chapter a great post, and thanks for coming back to spur newbies on....I never thought we would once again be in lockdown but there it is!

We have control over our actions and our thoughts, and control over how we cope with any situation without the drug Nicotine, but some things we cannot control.

Lets all be glad we have each other, during these dark days. Our happiness is what we make it, and we can be thankful for small things every day.

NOPE (not one puff ever) Congratulations on one whole year of quitting New Chapter, well done
