Slipped up in march after 1 and a half year non smoker. i am 2 days in.

Hello all :)
Well i slipped up in march. after having 1.5 years quitting.
I am currently at day 2.
Yesterday was really quite fine quitting besides the cravings.
Today those cravings are enhanced and alongside that has brought some mental challenges.
i know i can do this. :)
One thing pops up from time to time though and wondered if anyone else still has these thoughts
Seeing people i really admire and respect intellectually smoke!
Its a bizzare thing.
Firstly, i want to say the notion of smoking because someone you look up to is completely banished from my thinking.
However. Say for instance your a big fan of joni mitchell (for example), a fan of her voice but even more her brain and intellect.
Its so contradicting when you hear them talk of smoking in admiration, overlooking the long death list and are happily content. (Joni for instance started smoking when she was 9 and she is now 76.
Is it the drug addiction? Are they just content to die? Are they all such fully blown nihilists?
This might not be a thing people discuss on here but thought i would post.
Best wishes everyone.

Welcome cici, No matter how much you are thinking of others you look up to in respect to smoking, try not to think of others during this time in this way, it is just your own brain trying to rationalize your own reasons to smoke again with a half hearted approach.
You need a full dose of commitment to help you through this time. Nicotine is a drug that is harmful and keeps you trapped, if you think being trapped is a good way to live by all means follow your idols, they too may have not learned about the habitual drug that Nicotine is. Have a look at "How to grow to be a happy non smoker by Nasia Davos you can find it on utube. Work through the emotional aspect which keeps you hooked, and remember to quote NOPE (not one puff ever) every day this will help you get through both your mental and physical commitment.
Congratulations on trying again you can post anytime, we are here to help.

Great advice has already een given, ut i would like to point out that the rich and famous, and those who you might look up to are not immune to addiction. As with any addiction, until you admit it is an addiction or that you have the desire and velief that you can stop, you will continue. I like others came to think I enjoyed smoking, only ecause withdrawal is not pleasant. A drag solved the dilema vriefly, so we felt normal and alright again. Had we admitted that it was a vicious cycle caused vy an addiction to the drug called nicotine, had we faced the fear of quitting and having a little discomfort for a short period of time, we may have quit long ago. Onlly those who want to face the fear with admit they have a provlem and make the changes necessary.

Hi cici great comments and suggestions from softly40 and happiness. Yes I think its the addiction and lies we tell ourselves for example I will feel less stressed if I have a coffee and cigarette,I will feel less self conscious with others with a cigarette in my hand. I think if joni was able to swallow a potion and she would never need smoke again and have no cravings she may just consider swallowing the potion. I started smoking at 12 because I seen others I thought were cool do it and I wanted to be just like them and cool too. Now at 50 I just want to be me and quitting this smoking is another way I get to learn who the real me is and im cool with that. No more trying to be others, instead Im on the self discovery path and for me I want to learn how to quit smoking so I connect and learn from those who have gone before me and do what I can to help those that come after me. I am enough I have enough I do enough is a mantra I have been taught to be ok in my own skin just being me.

I read that even Keith Richards quit smoking about a year and a half ago. He said that quitting smoking for him was harder than quitting heroin. But the point is that subconsciously people smoke not because of intellectual bohemian reasons but because it’s too hard to quit and they find reasons to justify their smoking such as being intellectual or bohemian. Good luck.

Please comment on any subject relating to the addiction. It's a valid discussion you have made, not just you cjcj.
I never intentionally wanted to smoke cigarettes to look cool or fit into any club, nothing like that.
Unfortunately, I got hooked or trapped with nicotine only because in the 80's, I used a little-bit of tobacco in the mix. We called it spin.
Some members may recall those day's?
If you don't understand? Your probably better off! :)
