I Quit

Quit for 3 mths...bought a pkt of 20...then quit for 9 mths...and still not smoking.I used patches. Its not so much the cravings I found...its trying to sleep initially that is hard.However...the main suggestion I have is don't go to bed with your patch on...take it off an hour or so before. It will stop you having weird dreams...also...if you are wondering what patch to use...if you have stopped that day...21mg would be best...I was into my 3rd day of quitting...chemist said go on the 14mg ones...I bought a weekly pack to try them out first...then got a script for a monthly supply...weaned myself off later using 7 mg and keep a couple on hand just in case. One more thing...people say tell your family and friends your doing it for support...I think that's not a good idea personally.Do it in your time...in your own way and you don't need a constant reminder from people about it...especially if you are able to go days or weeks without thinking about it but...reward yourself ...that's the best way...what do you like ? Music...Gardening...Hobbies ? I love my music so I was buying cd's and my collection is rocking now...hahaha...good luck...contact me if you want to chat on here...rock and roll.

Congratulations on 9 months quit smoking. I can only hope that this is your last time. Learning about you and nicotine, and setting your mind against smoking rather than mourning it as a lost friend goes a long was in easing the transition to a happy non-smoker. The psychological part is something only you can do, while the patches eases you off the nicotine. I trust you are also nicotine free , free of aids, at this time. Some people have been known to become addicted to the nrt. While it is better than smoking, it is still nicotine and should be eased off of as soon as possible.

Enjoy your music and rock on!

Thankyou...I am totally nicotine free...I only have a couple of patches on hand just in case I need one but I know 99% I won't...and 99% I wont smoke again. I have a kidney condition which has improved 5% since I stopped smoking and eat a healthier diet so that is my motivation to be healthier and have something to show for my money I'm saving...at this point...I don't miss it at all and am happier for it...cheers and thanks once again for your encouragement.

Hi BoogieChillen, Great start to your quit and congratulations on 3 months, I agree it depends on the person for using instructions regarding NRT's, you can adjust your dose as you go. I was on Champix using only half a dose (none at night). It is perhaps just as important to practice NOPE (not one puff ever) every day to compliment your quit and letting your brain catch up with the thought you will never smoke again no matter what. Keep on enjoying your rewards of music.

Hi Softly 40...I hadn't realised you'd been in touch til now...I did quit for 3 mths...Jun to Sept last year...then...even though I wasn't desperate to smoke...it was my birthday so...I bought a six pack of Bourbon and a pkt of smokes ...because I knew Id feel like a smoke if I had a drink...to me...it wasn't a fall off the wagon but of course there was nicotine in my system...hahaha...so anyway...since that point to now...no smoking and no drinking...totally nicotine free but the time will come in 3 mths when its my birthday again...hahaha...I'll let you know what happens...thankyou for your support and I'm around to chat if you like...bye for now.

Here's a link to drinking and it doesnt necessarily mean drinking forces us to smoke.

I drink and dont smoke.

Disassociate them going together.

Hi...thankyou for putting the link here ...its interesting isn't it...some would say a drink and a smoke are like boogie and blues...they go together nicely. Others can do what you are able to do and that's great.Since Sept last year...I have done without both and that has improved my kidney function according to my recent blood tests. Anyway...it will be a year in 3 mths time.Im ok with no smoking/drinking and I'm nicotine free .The kidney mgt side of things is a big motivation to not let the wheels fall off ...I hope you are well and enjoying life ...thanks again for your compassion.
