I quit smoking on World No tobacco Day - 31 May 1996, after smoking for 21 years. Life got better and better. I had it beat and referred to myself as a non-smoker, having completely reversed all smoking-related affects. Life as a non-smoker is truly a better place, although when addicted, it is hard to believe. This insidious addiction is strong. Eighteen months ago, I fell in love with a smoker and you guessed it, within 6 months, I gradually started smoking again after 22 years. But I remember, life as a non-smoker is so much better, so once again I begin the journey. I have resorted to Champix, which does work for me despite some nasty side effects. I am smoke-free 8 days and going well, but fear, living with a smoker, this will be my life-long battle. Wish me luck! :)

Wish all luck, But , when you had completely reversed all smoking-related affects. What did it mean to you? How does it work? How did you think about the old smoking days? Is it a life-long battle or can we all call it Quits when we decide thats it and the party of smoking is over. I'm trying to think that my pleasure of smoking finished and would like to think it was torture and never a pleasure. what do you think>/

thanks in advance

I guess you started again because you loved him and not the smokes. You just wanted to share everything and every moment with him. You obviously accepted being a non-smoker and enjoyed being able to call yourself one. You should find no difficulty quitting again especially with champix as you only need to rid yourself of the nicotine addiction. The 80% psychological part is well within your grasp to do easily Mindset is everything. Perhaps he will follow your lead as a bonus.

So many great replies to you SuziMJ take them onboard, and practice NOPE (note one puff ever) every day, out loud if you want your love to hear, Champix worked for me with only half a dose.

Aw guys, thank you for your kindness and support. Yes, I am reminded that I can do this and my desire that says "I enjoy smoking" is just the addiction. I am focusing on all the advantages of not smoking. He's keen to cut down for now and eventually quit, so who knows - maybe I can set a good example! :). Thanks again.

Good luck. Stay strong and persevere. I had two relapses in the past. The first one occurred after not smoking for over two years and the second time after not smoking for over a year. And each time I fell off the wagon after just one puff because I tried to prove to myself that I had this addiction beat. How stupid is that? I wasn’t even in love with a smoker. This time I’ve been smoke free over 3 years and my daily mantra is NOPE - not one puff ever. Cheers.
