4th week of quitting / still feeling horrible

Posted in Quit experiences
schedule 19 May 2020

Hey everyone, I’m in the beginning of my 4th week of quitting cigarettes and a weed cold turkey. I have read many of your stories and I am having some issues.

I was a smoker of cigs and weed for 20 years. I had quit for a year and then started smoking again. This time I’m doing it cold turkey and it’s really tough on my body as far as the withdrawals. I’m not really having too many cravings for either but my body is definitely not feeling normal at all. My body is still has the shakes and I’m always cold and my body has flu/sick symptoms as far as the shakes and tingling feeling. For a while I thought that I had other issues and my Doctor had me take multiple blood tests and all the tests came back totally normal, thank god. But... the symptoms I’m feeling are totally messing with my head. I am under a lot of stress all day and feel panicked all day, and anxiety kicks and I freak out. I am also very depressed, don’t feel like doing anything and when I do something I get super tired super quick. Before the pandemic hit, I was very active at work walking on average 20,000 steps a day which was equaling you 40 miles a week. And now it’s like a 3 mile a week. I’m hoping that all of these feels are do to everything in my life changing because of the pandemic. I know stress can really mess your body up and then adding the quitting smoking of cigs and weed probably has thrown my body into a downward spiraling Feeling.

Does anyone else’s body feel like they were just hit by a truck and feel really weak.

Please let me know. Thank you all for reading.

Good luck to everyone out there who is quitting. I just have to keep telling myself that as bad as I feel right now, it’s still better than smoking and it just goes to show how cigarettes and weed can effect your body. Everytime I want a cig or weed I tell myself “no devil” your not going to win, I’m stronger than you and I know you want to kill me and I’m not letting you hurt me like this ever again.

Dear Mike thanks for letting us into your world at present, first let me say congratulations on your 4 weeks, this is a huge achievement. Taking things in your stride in small chunks is the best way forward if you are feeling overwhelmed.

Your present situation has also changed, which is not easy to contend with, but let me say, it is how we adapt and move forward that makes all the difference in the long run. You can see this as an opportunity for greater things which you never thought of before, or you can see this as the end of the line. I know which choice I would take.

Your determination in counteracting the withdrawals is awesome so keep getting stronger on this count. You might consider your happiness overall is in need of a lift in achieving your goals, one of these I found helpful is looking a a video on u tube - called - "How to grow to be a Happy Non Smoker" presented by Nasia Davos, TEDxUniversityofPiraeus

I also note you have kept in touch with your GP this is great I had minor issues, but these lessened eventually. Others might have similar feelings to you, who read our forum, so they might be helpful to you.

Well done

I'm facing lot of withdrawal symptoms as you had and same i don't have that much cravings but my body ache was was worse and i'm facing left side body pain especially left arm, left and front neck pain with L - bow pain and shoulder pain for last 25 days. and my anxiety was in peek. I faced lot of new symptoms every day in the first 3 weeks and now all was fine. Now i'm facing only the body ache and stuffy nose and sometimes mild pain for 2 or 3 minutes in chest or sides of chest. But the left arm pain was lasting for more time . i did all heart related tests it was normal. Keep quitting. Never give up ! Do you facing any kind of symptoms ?

Thank you Aaryan for your comment. Omg I can’t tell you how much your comment means to me. It’s so reassuring that you said that you are feeling the same thing. I totally forgot to mention the arm pain, both of my arms were going numb on and off for the longest time. It literally stopped like 2 days ago. From what I was reading is that our shoulders, neck and back can get so sore that it can travel into our arms. I also had a EKG test done on my heart and it all came back good. It’s a real struggle isn’t it. I have quit weed and cigs in the past but not at the same time. When I would quit weed I always had cigarettes to fall back on, when I quit cigarettes last time I had the weed to fall back on, lol. This is the first time doing both cold turkey and wow I thought I was gonna die the last few weeks. I’m not gonna say that I’m happy your feeling those symptoms but I am happy to hear that it is exactly what I’m feeling and that it is normal to feel that. Good job buddy, I am so proud of you. Remember this feeling if you ever think you wanna smoke either of them again. I keep telling myself that it is the devil trying to get the best of me and I ain’t gonna let that happen. Fists 👊🏼 up, we got this.
