hey folks, first time posting, I was going well for exactly 1 week smoke free when all of a sudden I got a urge to smoke and of course I lit up a cigarette, felt guilty and disgusted going cold turkey is harder then it seems, wanted to ask if anyone has used prescribed medications like champix or any other medications that actually work and if they have bad side affects.

Hi Akash, I quit cold turkey and now smokefree for more than 1.5 yrs approx.

Suit urself with either way cold turkey or patch but both are possible. Cold turkey is bit hard for first four week and during this time , to be frank, u r under your own strict gaurd. If u reach 4 week milestone I can give u in writing that journey is much more easy. My personal experience are posted as my stories. Feel fee to read them. I too have my high and lows where I miss the monster but NOPE is the mantra.-Not one puff ever

You or we can use any aid available to ease the way into the end zone, its all a subsidiary side affect. No matter how we do it , the smoker has to have the last Puff to declare non-smoker status. If there is no more puffs or drags on a burning and carcinogenic product we are free!

Free of smoking from the last Puff everybody, Please dont get sucked into believing this is a long journey.

Freedom begins from that last Puff.

No matter what happens----as long as we realize that as long as we DONT Smoke, we are free. Dont over complicate it.

Practice NOPE and its that simple

Enjoy your freedom every one who doesnt smoke and good luck to those who still suck smoke or have a puff on one.

NOPE is the only way- No matter what method.

A wonderful post PuffNoMore. From one who had a lot of difficulty in the beginning , fear and doubt, you are doing great! Once you stop fearing the journey , start believing in yourself and embrace the change for the better , you will undoubtably find it much easier . I made up my mind from the beginning and had no cravings after the first 72 hours nicotine free. I expected those because I had been brainwashed for many years like all smokers. Cravings are mere thoughts though. Pisces proved that even coming off of nicotine can be done with ease. Believe it so and it can be.Its all in the mind. Think positive.

I had alot of difficulty in my past simply because of fear and doubt in myself . I may have wanted to Quit in a theory of common sense that it was the right thing to stop....... It wasn't until that smoking was something I didnt want to do anymore. I got sick of it, could see the stupidity, trapped in habit or addiction, certainly a waste of money and simply wanted the slavery over

Its the want and belief and ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that the last puff has was my past history

I used to be unable to distinguish the difference between some urge or thought of the need for a smoke or some normal need of relief from stress and anxiety. lets not be fooled by the difference anymore

what ever i think---i dont smoke ,

Welcome Akash1. I used Champix, but the side effects for me were nightmare dreams. I cut the dose in half and just used one tab in the morning.

The upside to this medication is that there is no Nicotine, so you are getting rid of the nicotine at the same time. No problem now that I am not on anything. I still use the NOPE (not one puff ever) Mantra every day, simply because I do not want to go back to square one again.

If you are going to use any NRT method this one stands out for that very reason, but of course you can go Cold Turkey many have.

Champix has been working for me.. Side effects are technically not side effects just few changes which if you are mentally ready to quit won’t deter you..

I'm on champix (my second attempt) and it's going great, haven't smoked for more than 2 months and don't feel the urge to. I have vivid dreams but have only had maybe like 2 nightmares. I have noticed that I can now easily sleep a solid 12 hours aswell, but that wasn't straight away. I also noticed that aswell as taking the edge off the cravings, it has also just made me more calm and relaxed and not worrying about "the next thing to do" or " the next smoke". I used vaping as a vice for the first month and a half which was helpful but now I don't even vape anymore. Give champix a go. Get a vape.
