i slipped

Strange isn't it, I was at 980 days of living without Mr Nico teen not thinking of a smoke anymore and here we go: A great holiday in summer europe with old chain smoking friends, cheap cigarettes and i started again. Got through two 2 packets in 2 weeks and now without smoking again for 4 days.
So stupid I was- all the addiction connection restarted their activity- every person I passed smelling like smoke makes me feel to want a smoke again..
So stupid, thinking that it would be nice to have my calm moment outside in the evening and looking at the sun.
I managed to stop in time, but fairly sure, 2 packages more and I would be back a full smoker, enjoying the morning cigarette and needing all the other once.
No- not this time, never again.. But well, a good lesson learned.

I've been there andies, and I felt so terrible about the failure, I kept on smoking. It seems when you are on holiday you want to throw caution to the wind, which is a normal reaction for everyone. Unfortunately this is the price we pay and its not a good outcome. One thing I can say to you is:
1. At least you stopped after only two pacs, and
2. You got straight up and dusted yourself off and joined in this forum again.
Let us all be mindful of how easy it is to let down your guard in relation to the Nicotine person who wants to destroy all your good work. Keep in touch while you are now starting again, it might be a different scenario than before. Day 4 ...Good job, maybe think of two weeks less than your previous quit. Its up to you.

Andies, happens to the best of us. Happened twice before to me. Take it as a lesson learned and move one. Good luck.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You stopped after 2 packets and that's huge. Good to hear you are back on track and thanks for letting us all know that we can't be too complacent in our quits as the nico demon is always waiting for a weak moment no matter how strong we may be today or how long we've been smoke free. Holidays seem to be a trend for caving so have to be extra vigilant. Keep going...you've got a goal to beat your 980 days all power to you.

Hi Andies. Welcome back to the land of determined quitters. Do stay for the long term. So good you have returned.

Well Andies , a lesson is something learned. A setback is just that and not the end of the world. Time is only a physical graph kept to monitor your progress, and 980 days is quite an accomplishment. Since you sincerely regret the slip, I think it should be just a reminder of the perils should we forget how valuable our freedom is and how some really worked hard to get it . Dust yourself off and remind yourself everyday that you are now a non-smoker and proud of it! Mindset is crucial. I want to be free!

Glad you were able to stop again, but have to admit that I find it disheartening that Ill still be fighting urges around the 3 year mark!
Its like an infection that gets into your blood that you can never get out but remains dormant for years. :-(

Hey PV........yes you right it is an infection alright.....but you WILL get it out especially when you start to run out of breath walking up a slight grade. I smoked f o r 53yrs and been quit 3years. I walk up hills now no problem. Better to be alive well than alive with an oxygen bottle. Young people feel they are bullet proof like i did...but the party will come to an end believe you me. Cheers.

Hello again Andies. I just noted that your last post was March of 2018, that is well over a year ago. Have you been joining us here at all over that time period? I do hope you will answer this, as some are of course worried that they may befall your fate, and perhaps not so lucky to have escaped again so easily. Or is it easy? Maybe it is harder to regain the foothold you had for 3 years? Answers are always in demand and welcomed.
There is a saying about forgetting history and being doomed to repeat it, which i why i believe that taking a regular part in this forum can help to reinforce your convictions to stay quit.

I do hope you found yourself back on solid ground once again. Keep on reading and visiting the forum to stay on track, or get back on track. We hope you will take part in comments and as well, let us know how you are doing. Take care and NOPE!
