Coughing chest tightness

Hi 👋 guys !
New to this site! 36 years old smoking between 10 cigarettes to a pack a day since 20 years old. Longest I quit for was 2 years! My second real attempt it’s been about 150 days. I’m experiencing chest tightness and back pain near shoulder blades. Coughing dry, green white even brown phlegm and have itchyness in chest. Went to doctors had X-rays, ct scan, heart stress test and lung function tests all normal. Been going on for about 8 weeks now? Has anyone else had a similar experience? I’m now on a course of antibiotics, Love to hear from u guys. Cheers

Robn thanks heaps! First few days was tuff but this chest thing is making me so much more determined to permanently give them the kick !

So many have testified as to how much better their health is since quitting smoking Tony82. I am sure you have felt the difference in your breathing after 150 days smoke free, so Congratulations! Please read some stories and research nicotine to understand your relationship with cigarettes. Knowledge will not only free you from the addiction , but keep you free. Make this your last quit!
I smoked 30/day for 45 years and was afraid to go to the doctors after being diagnosed with borderline copd three years earlier. I was concerned that after quitting smoking that I did not hack up the filth in my lungs. Thankfully all is well at 220 days smoke free. I hope the antibiotics solve your concerns soon. Thanks for commenting and I am sure that we all look forward to your input in the future. Everyone's participation makes it an even more wonderful place to visit and feel connected.

Welcome to this forum Tony82 and congratulations on reaching 150 days, I have just reached 100 days, but this is not my first time around, it is my first time on any forum of this type though and I am staying on board because it has helped me enormously to stay quit for this long. Your health problems don't look good but I gather you have been to your GP with getting Antibiotics. I personally have not had this problem, but I had a few problems when I first gave up around 8 years ago I have a sneaking suspicion that your body is adjusting and cleaning itself out but this is only my theory. That being said you perhaps should make sure you tell your GP of any other problems that can be checked out too as it might not be related. Keep up the good work and keep in touch

Hi Tony82. Congrats on being smoke free 150 days. Although I haven’t experienced back pain but I did read some other people’s comments that it’s quite common to cough out phlegm. This means your lungs are healing and little hair on your lungs that were killed by smoke and chemicals are growing back. There is a special name for the lung hairs which is cilia. Good luck and stay strong.

Hi guys! Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement! I’m really enjoying this forum taking it day at a time never want to smoke again! Have seen a respiratory physician and he didn’t seem to concerned. He said what ever it is it’s he’s cleared me of anything nasty so not to worry to much. I’m an anxious person by nature and not having the smokes to run to might be fueling my anxiety and making symptoms worse. Thanks agin guys for all your comments!😊
