schedule 10 Feb 2019

Hi Puffnomore, thank you, that is my plan, I don’t smoke in car or at work, my smokes stay at home always, but I only do short 5 hr shifts, still smoking as much while at home atm, but starting to get a horrible taste now.

schedule 10 Feb 2019

You will get a "full of smoke" feeling and a metallic taste in your mouth. And eat with the tablets to lesson the stomach upsets

Hi Broncor, welcome . Do your part of making changes of when you smoke, and adjust to your new life without them, after all that is why you began this journey. If i was using Champix i should be glad that they also TASTE aweful, I was not aware of that. I was aware that you have to EAT when taking the pill. I also know that it will not, nor does any quit smoking aid do the quitting for you.

Anyone can quit smoking if they help themselves. Apply yourself and stay positive, you will get there.

hi Broncor how are you going on the Champix now? im on week 3 and i have stopped smoking. If you think about it like 5% physical and 95% mental its your head not letting you give them up once you relise that you can stop.

By Broncor
schedule 17 Feb 2019

Hi Cole 35, I am now on day 9, find I am still smoking, although definite reduction, I am not really getting any side effects, only very slight upset tummy occasionally and bloating / wind, but that is me in general. I will make a mental effort to cut down again this week. Only thing is my quit day was / is 1st March which I decided even before commencing champix, feel I should bring it forward to put some pressure on myself. Was kinder hoping for a bit of nausea to make the distaste more obvious. I feel a slight mental shift since starting the higher dose, in a good way I think.

schedule 20 Feb 2019

Hi Broncor.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hows it going? Are you almost smoke free yet? Those smokes would be tasting "metallic" and disgusting by now. With me I decided to pull-out of my Quit date and stopped taking Champix on day 3, I'll Try again when I'm ready

By Broncor
schedule 20 Feb 2019

Hi puffnomore, I am still smoking, cut by maybe half, increased dose of champix has helped. Most taste and smell disgusting, also have the metallic taste. I set my date for 1st March, a bit longer than recommended, however that is what my plan was, will cut down further this week and am confident champix is helping as I don’t feel like smoking, just those dreaded habitual times. I am getting a few side effects but nothing too major at this point. Thank you for your consideration, and keep us up to date with your quit plans, this forum does help...

schedule 21 Feb 2019

Hi Broncor,

...........I havent really got any plan to Quit, but the !st of march sounds reasonable.

I think I'm too scared of letting the smokes go this time, because of the enormous efforts of will power it took to firstly get off them. And then put up with the mental part breaking the habit. I missed the instant hit of a drag for weeks. I went 30 days. relapse. 55 days. relapse. then 11 days only to relapse again, so I'm pretty disappointed in myself atm. I need to get over it, but the many failures took its toll.

Is this your first serious attempt to Quit?

Lets hope you succeed and Quit this time so that you can avoid the merry-go-round that I'm on.

By Broncor
schedule 21 Feb 2019

Hi puffnomore, I stopped for 2 pregnancies many years ago, lasted one week last year cold turkey then decided to reward myself by buying smokes???? Tried the vapour, it is not for me, perhaps that can work for some. I am desperate to change my habits and be busier by my quit date, don’t be too hard on yourself, you lasted 96 days in total. I am having some sleep issues atm so not sure if that is the champix, I have never been a good sleeper, but this is worrying me cause if no sleep I wiil be really struggling. I too am very scared to let them go, but I am way more scared to keep smoking,

schedule 21 Feb 2019

I must say that Champix worked for me about 12 years ago, and, I was a happy non-smoker for roughly 2 years!

I'm also desperate to kill my addiction and the habit that i simply can not afford these days

schedule 21 Feb 2019

We think its been difficult for me this time because I'm not busy, with too much time on my hands>

I also drink beer daily. And my mind produces higher levels of worry and anxiety than most people. My first 10 days I was alcohol free, but slowly increased the amount to about 10 -8 cans a day.

Maybe if you drink its worth considering not to, atleast at the start of your Quit.

By Broncor
schedule 21 Feb 2019

Mmmm, I too love my beer and suffer anxiety, I don’t drink every day, but most days, but can enjoy just one or two, so I already planned to cut out the beer for a few weeks... it’s just so hot at the moment. I only work part time but have lots of things planned, painting, gardening and I have started walking. Thanks for your advice, best to be as prepared as possible.

schedule 21 Feb 2019

Its the extra time factor that got me. I was totally used to breaking up the day and night with smoke breaks. Breaking my work or tasks with the so called reward of a smoke, have operated like this for decades. . so if your prepared for that, thats a good thing.

The anxiety I suffer comes and goes and I'm going through a tough time, but generally my life is not greatly affected by mental illness, just periods here and there.

We both deferentially dont need the added worry of meeting the cost's of buying them, but the added stress of hanging out till the next smoke raises anxiety also. It will be great to be happy and content without the habit!!!

I lived in Forster, Smiths lake and surrounds for 15 years, just wondering what part of the Mid North Coast you are?

I enjoyed the beach's and the Great Lakes District, but apart from my 2 year period of non-smoker, there was always a smoke waiting me.

Hoping to call it Quits forever, soon.

By Broncor
schedule 21 Feb 2019

Ahh yes the reward smoke, think we can all relate to that! I am on the beautiful Coffs coast and can’t wait to really breath the beautiful fresh air here. I feel I am in a similar boat with anxiety, I don’t have other mentall illness, just over think and OCD (my anxiety). I have been really thinking lately though that my anxiety is worse when I think about what the smoking is doing to me, will try to use that to my advantage. I am prepared for some setbacks, but it may not happen overnight for me, but it will happen.

schedule 21 Feb 2019

I think smoking, drinking and coffee or even tea has ramifications for some anxiety. With me its a generalized anxiety disorder (excess worry). To be free of the smoking addiction means alot to me, but havent been able to achieve it.

ATM. Its damned if I do, Damned if I dont. But, you could Give it a go now. Youve got 9 or 10 days to your Quit date. I dare you to start tomorrow!

By Broncor
schedule 21 Feb 2019

I am looking forward to catching some sleep over next couple days, would love to take you up on your dare, but don’t have the guts to commit just yet, Monday may be a different story though. Did the champix make you ill? I am using the sea sick wrist bands, seems to help, only minor tummy issues, they are a little expensive at around $16 but will recoup that in a few hours of not smoking. I decided to take champix with help from gp, I have other issues they are trying hard to help me with and I just keep on smoking, go figure? I think we are dammed if we quit quitting, you have set a challenge though and it always helps when you have someone on the same journey.

Your Damn right.................

We are THE DAMNED if we dont QUIT

yes, i stopped my champix this time due to nausea, but last time (12 years ago), I got past it by eating well, keeping busy and determination. I was in a better frame of mind then........

Don’t underestimate your abilities. You have been one of the most supportive and positive on this forum, hence why I followed you. You have experiences to share, I agree you do have to be in a good frame of mind, but life happens and there will always be things out of our control that effect us, it’s taking control of what we can, when we can.

schedule 23 Feb 2019

Hi Broncor,

Have you been catching up on some sleep? How are you feeling about ending your relationship with the smokes? How many have you been smoking each day?

I think its a mind game. Its one thing to make the so called decision to Quit, but its so different to stick with it that could be the hardest. We know that its the right decision to not smoke, but it does test the resolve from time to time. Especially the first day or two.

schedule 26 Feb 2019

Hi Broncor,

How are you doing? We're on the back pages, nobody would bother looking here? lol ?

By Broncor
schedule 26 Feb 2019

Hi puffnomore, been keeping busy, still smoking, cut down a lot, but also struggling to enjoy my beer, this will probably be a good thing in short term, it is making me feel ill when I smoke or wondering why I am bothering, my quit day is Friday,,,,, but,,,, I have some family coming so think weekend may be stressful, will still try, however may give myself weekend grace. Good news is though, I have 2 smokes left for evening and morning and i am not worried, scared this may work when I adjust my mental view..

schedule 26 Feb 2019

i know how it feels, you can call it off, i did. but dont do what i did and thats going from none to 30 a day again,. if you decide to call it off and stop taking champix, continue not to smoke and if 3 smokes a day is all you smoke its good, because its easier to give up 3 per day rather than 30.

atleast you have cut right back on the smokes. and that is a good thing in the grand scheme of things

By Broncor
schedule 26 Feb 2019

I am not going to stop the champix, even though the stomach issues are increasing, due to the family stress and they are big drinkers and smokers, and will be here for the weekend (uninvited) I am going to try and stick to my quit date of 1st March, but if I stumble on weekend, Monday 4th it is, definitely going to try, don’t want to waste this

schedule 26 Feb 2019

yep, understand, have to learn to be around family that smokes,

got to give up sooner or later, me included

schedule 26 Feb 2019

glad you talked to cole, i think nuts is another one you could talk too. just because she started on NRT doesnt matter much. you three can really help each other.

schedule 27 Feb 2019

Hi Broncor.

Just think of the money you will save when you Quit. Is it $100 or $200 every week? With the price increase of 15% in April and October every year, how the h*ll can we afford them?

We are forced to bite the bullet and Quit the s#ckers, because we will be the only s#ckers in this country left still buying them:(

By Broncor
schedule 27 Feb 2019

Yes money is also driving factor, will save $200, possibly more from weekends, I pay $36 packet, very very stupid. I will be able to work less, I am scared but excited

schedule 27 Feb 2019

I'm s^iting myself, but the writing is on the wall. Its time to let go of them.

My pack of 30 are $34 dollars everyday. And if I have to buy them at a servo or bottle-shop It goes up to $38. Its killing me at all angles . Its so STUPID

schedule 27 Feb 2019

Thats getting close to $500 a week! I have 500 reasons to Quit. lol

By Broncor
schedule 27 Feb 2019

Sounds like you are getting ready to set a date....I hope so, would be great to hear, and continue sharing the journey

schedule 28 Feb 2019

Hi Broncor.

Tomorrow is the 1st of march unless its a leap year?

I reckon if You give yourself some grace over the weekend, with your family of smokers visiting might be a good idea? Might be a bit difficult I you all have a few too many drinks, LOL,.... Although, It might be a good idea to make tomorrow DAY1,,That way You can face those triggers head on!

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best with your Quit.

By Broncor
schedule 28 Feb 2019

Thanks puffnomore, I have decided on a grace period for weekend, but come Monday morn, I start. I was worried I was taking too long, but have done a lot of online research and quite a few people didn’t stop until week 3 or 4 on champix so I don’t feel like such a loser now. I can definately feel a shift.

schedule 28 Feb 2019

yes, the medical philosophy on when you stop smoking has changed. 12 years ago you were advised to stop about day 9.

hey Debbie has come on line and talks to nuts because she Quit around the same time as nuts. debbie is nice and another one that you could follow?

take it easy on the smokes over the weekend tho.

your turn has come to give them up.

i could give them up anyday now and this site may not here from me in the first few days, 'cause i find the first few days quite debilitating, unfortunately.

By Broncor
schedule 28 Feb 2019

Thanks nuts, and puffnomore I hope your day is soon, won’t pressure you, but if you are not online for a few days like you said, I will be excited for you,,, might be same for me from Monday, good luck and good health to us

hi broncor.

we have to believe its the right time to Quit.

As they say.

There's no time like the present.

By Broncor
schedule 3 Mar 2019

Thanks you two, the time HAS come, tomorrow I start my new journey, can’t wait, yes concerned but very determined, have 6 ciggies left so if not gone by bedtime down the loo they go, can’t finish a ciggie so champix has got me halfway, the rest is up to me

schedule 3 Mar 2019

we just had to push you lol

schedule 3 Mar 2019

get through day one. one day without them, then build on that

By Broncor
schedule 3 Mar 2019

Yes, sometimes it is the push, I am confident I will be ok for first few day, then I will have to tackle this beast, I am used to not smoking at work, car etc, it’s home evening, my house is going to be so clean,,,, tell us when to start pushing puffnomore.

schedule 4 Mar 2019

Well, here I ponder, with 6 cigs left, was that my last Packet of smokes I will ever buy? At $34 for a packet of 30 it just makes sense to Quit. Or I could buy one more packet and promise not to buy any after that one. But hang-on! Thats the same diologue in my head that I'm use to daily. I keep breaking my promise everyday. When is it going to stop? I hope this time is different and I can Quit!

Hey Broncor.

Thats what I go through most days and I fear that I'm not ready yet, but hope that you are ready and able to Quit the filthy things.

Since you smoke mostly at home, get out in the fresh air and utilise the beach and harbour and break free from this horrible habit.

I'll try to get off your back, but i'm hoping you can have a relative easy Quit!

One day at a time

By Broncor
schedule 4 Mar 2019

So far so good for me have not bought any, but realised I have a couple stashed away for emergency next morning ciggie, most likely stale now anyways. I am having my coffee in my smokin chair, not smoking but one of my main concerns was I would not sit on my deck anymore, so I am, but on my iPad instead. After that I am going to clean and deodorise it.

schedule 4 Mar 2019

Im so glad you have Quit ... Since you have been on champix for this long I thought its time for you stop smoking> Sorry for being on your back.

Also glad your still utilizing your deck. Everybody should get out in nature more often

By Broncor
schedule 4 Mar 2019

Thanks for being on my case, sometimes it is the push you need. Yes, I was getting worried it was taking too long and feared I was making excuses. Early days, but one by one, I will give this my best shot, did you buy more ciggies puffnomore? Have already starting scrubbing my deck and will start painting soon. It would be so easy to smoke, don’t need one, just thinking and keep going to walk out back after finishing each task,,,, now I,m nuts...

Hey Broncor, Hows your DAY 3 going?

Thanks guys, I am going better than I thought, still thinking of smoking when I finish a task, then quickly realise I am not smoking anymore. The champix definitely takes away the need to smoke. I have had terrible week of no sleep, and sweats so obvious withdrawal symptoms but I already feel much better with breathing and sinuses. Saved well over $300. Looking forward to finishing the champix but will stay the course, alteast another month.

It’s been quiet without you, I thought you had gone for it. Yes almost 5 weeks for me now, I cut down to 1/2 tablet in the evening and I have missed smoking a bit, but NOPE. Have been enjoying a few beers and been to the pub, so have been testing myself a bit. Starting a Keto diet on Monday as a new distraction and also to kick the kilo I found over the last few weeks, I have felt a bit low but this fits in with the quit timeline, never realised how much time I wasted smoking. Just the hour in the afternoon is when I miss it. But I am in this for the long haul now, I feel so much better and positive. I don’t mind I am relying on champix, I will keep at atleast 1 and 1/2 tabs for a couple more weeks at least.

schedule 5 Apr 2019

What about starting a new hobby first, then kick this habit to the kerb, a new distraction might help, worth a shot puffnomore, you have the want to quit, just got to get the right plan, just know you will get there.

Hopefully you have beaten the old addiction for life (for good)

Hi puffnomore always good to hear from you, yes another successful week, I am not really sure with champix, GP and recent reviews say longer your on it the better your chances, I have another month prescription if I need, I am taking one tablet in morning and half in the evening, saving the other halves, I am not having any side effects now, so I’m just not sure, I feel like the last couple of weeks and this week have been a bit testy, so yeah, want to be sure. I am in to deep now to ever go back though. Benefits of not smoking keeping me way to happy physically and financially, I can’t wait to hit 6 months. How are you feeling

schedule 22 Apr 2019

whatever you decide i'm with you all the way. you know what not to do now.

schedule 7 May 2019

Thanks Broncor,

You, nuts, debbie, cole and others have powered on while I spend $31 everyday. I'm so glad you guys have beaten the stupid habit!

I'll get there eventually. Went to doctor today and started some anti-depressants named efexor and hoping that it eases anxiety and depression enough to give away the smokes for ever. I'm suffering too much physical and mental anguish to attempt to Quit both beer and tobacco right now.

I rarely comment because I cant believe (in myself) . When I was not smoking I could totally believe in everything I said, and I'm happy that you got some encouragement out of it. Now, thankfully, you have really got this.

Enjoy that mid-north coast winter, 'cause we are freezing down here now with _3 degrees this morning

And look forward to your 100 day mark, its not that far away!!!!!!!!!!

How funny, i was trying to work out the "top news" then realised my story at top at the moment. Thanks nuts, second your comments, agree completely. Everyones journey is different and all dealing with different drama and priorities, puffnomore is addressing something important that will help him quit in the long term once and for all, want to let him know he did help me, him and nuts especially. Happiness has helped a lot of people and will continue to, it sometimes comes down to a connection and some stories may be closer to home for some. Anyway we should all feel very proud, those well on our way and those that will get there. Congrats to happiness for 6 months and we are close on her tail,

I apologize Nuts if you have taken offense in any way, as I did not intend to intrude nor imply anything. As I said, I have had back page conversations too. Mine just haven't become TOP News, which you have to admit is funny. I wish you all continued success and of course PuffNoMore will find the key . I am so happy he has the two of you to help him find it. I am sure that as well as myself, he has this whole forum cheering for him. Someday something will resonate (he likes that word that Robyn uses) and shift that piece of his mind that needs a push. Never Give up Given Up!

have you stopped the champix yet?

the low moods and sadness and anxiety that we feel from time to time is not helped by the smokes or champix,. when you drop the champix you should be ok and clear from ever smoking again.

let the community know when you get to 100.
