So yesterday I decided I was going to quit and I found this site. I put cold turkey as my plan but today I smoked semi disappointed because I want to be strong ' mind over matter' but I've gone from having 12-13 smokes down to six today. Tomorrow I'm hoping to halve that again but if I can I promised myself I won't go over 6 .. My start date for turkey is by the next two days can I do this I hope but I'm not going to get ahead of myself.

Smoker of 20 years ..

Wish me luck.

Hi Inneedofhelp,

Although you are disappointed you are still on the right track. I smoked for over 40 years and finally quit a little over one year ago. However, most of us went through a least several failed attempts, so don't be too hard on yourself. When you get to the point when you've cut down so much that the time between the last and the next cig is just too painful to handle (physically and mentally) that's the time to quit all together. During my failed quits in the past, even when I was able to reduce smoking to 2-3 cigs a day, I would eventually return to my regular smoking habit shortly. Good luck and all the best in your quit endeavor.

Hi, inneedofhelp I'm on day 5 without touching a cigarette. I have been a pack a day for the last 20 years. I personally find the patches really good and the Nicorette inhaler helpful when a real strong urge kicks in! I have tried cold Turkey and really struggled. Best of Luck!
