i love smoking, its a reward system. Yet i am so sad and regret all the years of smoking. 63 a mother of 5 and Oma to 8, i was able to quit for most of my pregnancies ( a slip up of with 2 pregnancies, just 2 a day). I think i use it a a lifeline, a relaxation system, i hate that i love it. I really don’t know how I can survive without it, what will i do. this is the first time i have ever truly reached out and i am so teary and disgusted in myself, yet its my happy place, ridiculous is me.

Hi oma,

I have to reply to your SOS.

I'm not an expert. However, I can hear your exasperation's in your message/post. Thank you for your honesty! I can understand your guilt in continuation of the smoking. I had the same or similar problem.

Yes, many of us did!

I'm not going to convince you that smoking is a senseless act here now. Nor am I ready or able to stop you from smoking now.

.....all I am asking of you is being open to member's suggestion's ,,comment's and support with stopping your smoking. After-all, I thought that I enjoyed smoking! Maybe.

I thought I would not survive without my "time-out smoko. Untrue!

With your honesty I'm sure you will eventually be successful with Quitting those expensive smokes for good.

I did, so you can to!

My advice is get yourself ready to join the ever growing rank as non-smoker.

In what way do you see smoking was a reward ? It may have been just a rest , so can you take a rest with maybe a nice relaxing cold lemonade or put your feet up rewarding yourself with maybe a good book or fit in a monthly massage as a reward ? Addiction fills us with lies we believe and truths we deny . Smoking is a killer , a liar , a thief . Truth . It does not reward us . Truth . Replace your reward with things that mean something to your heart .Ashes can’t give you that . Make some good memories now with those rewards and grandkids . You deserve this . Grandmas are the best :)

It truly feels like there is no light at the end of the tunnel when you're in the thick of cravings. But you will get relief, it just takes time.

Work on your breath. Long slow inhales and long slow exhales.

Drink lots of water and use mints or gum. It's all about forming new habits and behaviors. Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) will help ease the withdrawals in the beginning and give you enough relief to get through the tricky first part of quitting. Quitline will send you a stash for free. Expect to be anxious, depressed and irritable, but know this is not you nor permanent!!!
