Quit attempt 100

Posted in Getting started
schedule 23 May 2021

Hi everyone,

I have used this site previously to help me quit. I stayed a non-smoker for a number of years, but then took it back up after a night out with friends, a few drinks and a couple of cigarettes.

I'm now stuck feeling guilty because my 8 year old daughter has developed anxiety around my smoking. I hide it from my husband because he hates it. I spend so much hard earned money on smokes. I have depression and anxiety from the entire ordeal.

I forgot this site existed. But I'm here now, and I plan to begin tomorrow, Monday the 24th. I have patches and an inhaler. I wont have much family support as many of them don't know I've taken it back up, and I don't want to upset them.

Wish me luck!

Hi welcome back and good luck for tomorrow!

I am on day 12 with patches. Instead of all the worry about the fortune I was spending , and trying to hide the habit, I now feel that i have control.

I want full control of my life back. 30 years of being a dutiful slave to nicotine, all that time, all those resources and my health, enough!.

I have tried several times to quit and each time I've learned something and I strengthen my resolve. Millions of people across the world have suceeded, you and I can too

Having this community makes all the difference. Start your quit and know that it feels good.

I have lapsed a few times in the past after a break of a number of years, of course we didn't have a support site such as this one, but whatever the reason we do not want that shame in our lives anymore. Please adopt NOPE (not one puff ever) and use it every day in your thoughts and written down because this was the only Mantra that worked for me. Keep working on your own reasons with a happy and grateful heart, and stay close.

I hope you have strong reasons to quit for YOU. You know how great it was to be free of being nicotines slave and you know that you can CHOOSE that again. Why would you want to continue? Do it for you. BELIEVE that you can and you will.

schedule 25 May 2021

You were able to quit before and you can do it again. NOPE is the mantra for successful quit. Good luck.

The Hiders!!! I know exactly of what you speak. I've been an on-again off again smoker for years -- mostly non-smoker but having left the evil habit for sixteen years -- when I was 25, I would then pick up the evil NICOMAN (a term I learned on this web-site)! I would quit for five or six years, smoke pot and then immediately reach for a cigarette and then I'd be several months smoking again. This time I have been 60 days TODAY without a cigarette.

This site has given me the motivation to keep smoke free. I'm good until I have an emotional crisis and then I crave that old NICOMAN. I came home one day after a disagreement with my daughter (who's a wonderful woman) but challenging because she's so capable and intelligent. I wanted a butt more than anything else -- posted on line -- and one person said ( I forget who) but they were AND HAVE BEEN MY SAVIOR SINCE.

Whoever it was said, "You will NOT feel better. You will feel WORSE and HATE yourself!" His/Her words are seared in my mind, and I think of those words every time I feel the urge. Keep those words in your mind at all times. If you pick up a cigarette you will hate yourself.

And this way you don't have to hide, and isn't that a great feeling.

Good luck! You can do this.
