So, I've decided to quit finally, starting tomorrow. And I'm so scared. I've been smoking for 18 years and it shows. Weazing, can't catch my breath, severe cough... I'm scared I can't do it. Im scared it's going to drive me crazy. But I want to quit! So, I'm glad to be here, reading all of your stories. Im gaining encouragement and im finding comfort.

Hi Jayme and welcome aboard the journey to a wonderful place. Be prepared for some turbulence but if you weather it out, you will find your sea legs and find the voyage not as bad as you think. Cravings are nothing but mere thoughts. Turn your attention to something else or take deep breaths until it passes. Think of it as the little monster begging for his survival. Who will win? You are also fighting for your return of health, and it is very possible. You will notice a difference in a few days, the wheezing will subside. So many benefits to quitting. Hate the cigarette and it will have no power over you. You will lnot crave what you do not want. Make up your mind that you want to be a non-smoker and you will be. If you doubt, he will torment you, Believe and he is helpless in a few hours.

The body is a powerful thing , healing itself and surviving all these years of abuse. The mind is just as strong. Do not fear this journey but embrace it. You will be forever grateful that you did. Positive thinking brings positive results. You can do it!

Everyone on this forum at one time or another we’re scared and didn’t think they could do it. Based on my experience i assure you that you can do it but your desire to quit must exceed your want to smoke. After initial hardships you will be free and it is a great feeling. Good luck.
