Alternative therapies
Alternative or non-traditional therapies include acupuncture, laser therapy, hypnotherapy, and herbal cigarettes or herbal preparations.
If you’ve tried to quit smoking before and it didn’t work, you might be thinking about trying something different. While alternative methods can seem appealing, there’s currently no strong evidence that they help people quit successfully.
Some of these options can also be costly and may come with health risks. For example, herbal cigarettes still produce smoke that contains cancer-causing chemicals.
If you're thinking about quitting, it's safer and more effective to choose methods that are backed by research - like nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), prescribed medications and behavioural support. These options are proven to help manage cravings and give you a better chance of quitting for good.
