Get help from your doctor
Your GP or healthcare professional can help you understand your options for quitting. They can answer your questions, offer advice and support you along the way.
Your doctor can be a great support when you're trying to quit smoking. They understand your health history and can help you find the best way to quit for good.
Doctors can:
- Talk with you about why quitting is important for your health
- Help you set a quit date and make a plan
- Prescribe medication or nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) if it's right for you
- Answer questions and give advice about managing cravings or withdrawal symptoms
- Check in with you along the way to see how you're going
Some medications and NRT products are available at a lower cost through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Your doctor can explain your options and help you access what you need.
If you're thinking about quitting, booking an appointment with your doctor is a good first step. You don't have to do it alone - support makes a real difference.
