Aboriginal Quitline also provides information and support to parents, families and carers of Aboriginal people who smoke or vape.
How to speak to an Aboriginal counsellor
Ready to yarn about quitting? Call Quitline on 13 7848 and ask to speak to an Aboriginal counsellor. You can call the Quitline any time during opening hours.
If you call after hours, you can leave a message with your name and phone number and we will call you back. Don’t forget to mention if you’d like to yarn with an Aboriginal counsellor.
You don't need to have a referral to call the Quitline. If you’d like one though, you can ask your healthcare worker to refer you. They’ll get in touch with us, and then we’ll give you a call. You can also use the online form to request a call.
Tackling Indigenous Smoking Teams
Some Aboriginal Medical Services have Tackling Indigenous Smoking Teams who can help you quit. TIS teams are deadly Mob in community who are trained and ready to yarn with you about ways to quit smoking. They can help with a referral to Aboriginal Quitline and provide ongoing support while you're quitting. Visit the TIS site to see a list of TIS teams.

Quit Kits include lots of deadly tips and ideas to help you quit smoking and vaping and stay on track.
Quit smoking medication
Using quit smoking medication increases your chances of quitting smoking successfully. It’s even more effective when combined with counselling support, so give Quitline a call and start your quit journey today!
Many Aboriginal Medical Services in NSW provide free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT).
NRT helps reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms when you quit smoking. Ask your local medical service to find out if free NRT is available.
You can buy NRT through your local chemist or supermarket. You can also yarn with your doctor about getting a script for cheaper NRT through the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme).
You can also use non-nicotine medications to help you quit smoking. The two types of medication currently available in Australia on prescription from a doctor are:
