God help me!!!

Posted in Staying quit 21 Aug 2021

Hi quitfam, I cannot believe I am writing this........

My 15yr old son thought it would be a fun idea to take my car for a joyride last night and smashed my car into another parked car around the block. I had no idea that this had occurred until I found myself on my front porch with 2 police officers at 11pm at night.

Firstly he is unharmed, thank goodness, my car is a write off and as for the other vehicle, I am up for thousands of $$$$ as apparently insurance will not cover unless i report my car stolen and have my son charged.

Last night and today I am obviously distraught, have I once considered picking up a smoke, nope, that would of been the old me, jumping onto that excuse to crumble. Its an unpleasant situation that we will work through as a family. I just want to say amongst my distraught heart at the moment I do feel a glimmer of pride for working through my feelings without jumping to an old crutch......

Leeann, I'm so sorry to hear about your car and all the emotional upset you're going through but THANK GOODNESS we are just talking about a car. So glad your son is okay and so glad you didn't fall into the smoking trap - congratulations on passing your first major test with flying colours!

You should feel far more than a "glimmer" of pride, Leeann - you've dealt with this situation as a non-smoker :)

And I'm so pleased for you. Imagine if you were dealing with that sick, heartbroken feeling that comes with every bungled quit attempt (I know this feeling all too well) ON TOP of everything else. The cigarette can do nothing to help us - it just makes things worse.

You have been so strong and I'm so relieved that everybody is safe and sound. Proud of you, Mrs! (Big Hug) x

Thank you so much Percy for your kind words, it truly means a lot right now. I know a problem is all fixable if money can solve it my friend. Unfortunately things can happen in life that no amount of $$ can solve.
Last night and today have been horrid, but you Percy have just put a big grin on my face, you are so right and I thank you.
Trust me ive thrown that towel in that many times before that it is a joke, I always felt when I quit before that I was missing something and abstaining from a LUST of habit. I dont feel that way anymore, I think smoking is putrid now.
Day 32 and I will stay strong, NOPE🙌

Thrilled I made you smile :)

A hunk of metal is a hunk of metal - our children are precious. It's a day to rejoice! I drive a reliable old banger which I bought when my decent car was crushed like an accordion by a reversing truck. That was three years ago - and I'm still driving it because I've never owned anything so cheap to run and mechanically sound. You'll find a set of wheels that work for you!

Stay strong - you're my guiding light :)

I am so proud of you Leanne. Smoking doesn't solve anything and money is just money. The cost of a car is really very small when you think of the cost of smoking, both past and future. Your son is safe and learns a valuable lesson going forward. If he has to work the accident off, he won't be able to afford to smoke......think positive!

As in smoking, deal with it today and put it in the past where it belongs. Life does go on.

Thank you Happiness, you are a very wise and kind soul👍🙌

Leeann, I can't add any more words than the PERFECT words from Percy and Happiness! They both articulate so darn well. My thoughts are with you and stay as strong as you (obviously) are. Great job,.. I'm not sure I would have handled things as perfectly as you. Good job indeed!!!

    Thank you Hope2021🙌
  • NOPE-2021 August 22, 2021 | 4:37
We are all rooting for you, you are not alone...

Hmm,... that's kinda catchy "Hope2021" instead of NOPE-2021!! Yes, there is HOPE for all of us! Have a better day today Leeann!!! Hang in there!!

Oh my apolgies Nope2021, I didn't have my glasses on before, that was an error from my frazzled brain.

Yes today will be better than yesterday, and the day after will be slightly better. Just need to work through this, be thankful that my son -apart from whiplash is fine. Things could of been so much worse.

We will win this battle Nope2021 because this is it for me, I no longer smoke, it's that simple🤍

    Hi Leean,

It's 8.15 pm on Saturday evening here in UK. I've been giving the car a darn good clean-out, polish and vacuum...guess what I found under the driver's seat?

Yup - a pristine cigarette packet with a dozen or so cigarettes in.

I carried them at arm's length like I was handling a rattlesnake and dumped them in the dustbin then went back to polishing my dashboard.

My son gave me a squeeze and said "Cool...this time, you've really beaten it, Mum." :)

Should we collectively take on the title 'TEAM WINNING', d'you think? Us Kindies are starting to behave like seasoned professionals!!!!

    Celebratory celery stick, anyone? x

Hi Percy, it is 5.32am Sunday morning here and I am laying in bed after an unsettled nights sleep, watching some trashy easy on the mind tv shows.

That is so good Percy that you binned those cigarettes - pour some vinegar on them for good measure lol Oh and your son is watching on and has your back for support - love it.

My car was a 2009, I actually might buy myself a new smaller car, but will assess after I know where Im at in paying for the vehicle that got hit.

I might add, I have never bought a new car in my life, but it was in my plans for in a couple of years time, but now I find myself carless so will need to make some decisions over the nxt couple of weeks.

TEAM WINNING!!!! Yes please I want to be in that team Percy, it is certainly something to be proud of isn't it.🙌
  • NOPE-2021 August 22, 2021 | 5:43
    You are soooo right Percy!
I like that TEAM WINNING!! Because that is exactly what we are! We certainly ARE winning!
Go TEAM WINNING! AND,... anyone can join!!!
  • Percy Verence August 22, 2021 | 5:51
Absolutely, Nope - anyone can join!

Let's get ourselves across the 90 day finish line - then sprint through the next 90 days...and leave the whole smoking nightmare behind us!

    Onwards and upwards!
  • NOPE-2021 August 22, 2021 | 6:20
Ok gals,... I think we are having way too much fun with this!!!!
Let the good times roll !!!!

Oh bless you Jess for your kind words🙌🤍 You are amazing, you and all the pple in this group give me so much inspiration.

The support this group has shown and given me means so much right now, you have no idea.

Adding to all of the above posts, I truly admire your sense of calm and pride in yourself Lee, we have aol been on this journey with you from the beginning, and it is at these testing times when we would have jumped for that old crutch. Well done..

I am so glad your son is alive and well, possibly a lot of remorse for the trouble he has brought you. You can afford to replace that car but not your precious son. We are all now in lockdown, so it is so important to stay safe and take care.
    NOPE (not one puff ever)
  • Leeann , Central Coast August 22, 2021 | 13:39
Thank you Softly, yes ive had quite the journey to become a nom-smoker. Lovely winners and cheerleaders like yourself show and aid the journey for pple like myself who have battled to become a non smoker, so your support means a lot, thank you🙌🤍
  • PuffNoMore, Southern NSW August 22, 2021 | 20:03
Good God Leeann., You done well to not get triggered with those turn of events. Ditto of your son mostly uninjured.
    Keep on keeping on.
  • Robn August 23, 2021 | 15:10
Hi Leanne, sorry to hear of your troubles at the moment.....just remember, this too shall pass. As long as your son is okay and no one was injured, that is the main thing. To get through this while quitting and come out the other side without relapsing is a testament to how strong you are. You will get through whatever life throws at you because you are strong and resilient. Best wishes to you and your family.......happier days ahead.
  • Leeann , Central Coast August 23, 2021 | 16:30
Thank you so much Puffnomore and Robn yes I have been quite stressed, but that will all pass, I realise a filthy little smoke will not make me feel any better, but a whole lot worse. Ive thrown myself into the necessary bits and pieces yesterday and today to resolve things.
