Tonight we seemed to have attracted a number of vape users and supporters. While all points of view are to be respected we all have to consider all the points and decide what is the best for you as an individual as all quits are different.

These four who came forward within the space of a few minutes to support each other seems strange to me. All four joined today. All four claim to be happily smoke free and vaping for 18 months or more and one as long as five years.

I have asked each to explain how they came to come to iCanQuit, as clearly they are not suffering nicotine withdrawal and as they just switched out their method of nicotine intake they are not in need of psychological support in accepting the journey of becoming a non-smoker. No one has yet answered my question except to say that this is a quit smoking site and this is how they quit smoking.

But my question is deeper than that....why are they here at all? Five years quit smoking and vaping and very happy. Why are they reading our posts? Are we that interesting.? Did they really want to support you or just sabotage your quit. None offered any support or advice except to tout the merits of vaping. BUT WHY ARE THEY HERE?

Will vaping companies sink so low as to come to a site sponsored by the Cancer Society to lure people seeking help to take the easy way out? Is it really the easy way? If it is not a company, then why are these people here and trying to turn your minds to vaping?

Nicotine has taken enough from us, fooled us long enough. Beware of these people.

    SUPPORT SUPPORT SUPPORT
Why are patches,(contains nicotine) gum,(contain nicotine) sprays, (contains nicotine) ok and vaping is not. You seem to only support a few ways of nicotine delivery, not all??? Strange, do you know something that UK and NZ health don't???
Look up some facts and studies on vaping before you dismiss this a proven form of cessation.
FACTS and Proof are the key.
I see so many people here repeatedly trying and not succeeding.
I want to help save lives is all I want, just like all on this site.
Thank you Happiness I respect your view and opinion.

  • Pisces24, Central Coast December 10, 2019 | 15:39
Why no answer why you vapers trying to promote this method?? Happiness I'm in your camp.
  • AndrewCam, Western Sydney December 10, 2019 | 15:40
    Hi again Happiness.
    See the ingredients of Nicorette.

Hydrochloric acid is an interesting one don't you think.
Not even sure what the others are??? Scary!!!

Vaping ONLY contains 4 of those ingredients,

    Propylene Glycol
    Glycerol
    Flavours (vegetable grade)
    Nicotine if you choose.
NB. Many vape without nicotine and also succeed.

Each spray of NICORETTE® QuickMist contains 1 mg of nicotine, propylene glycol, anhydrous enthanol, trometamol, poloxamer 407, glycerol, sodium hydrogen carbonate, levomenthol, mint flavour, cooling flavour, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, hydrochloric acid and purified water.

I know what I would prefer to inhale.
  • Happiness December 10, 2019 | 15:42
I didn't expect that you would be Pisces24. You are doing so well and grasping the concept admirably. Stick with your plan and on the course to true freedom.
  • AndrewCam, Western Sydney December 10, 2019 | 15:44
Because its a proven method that millions and millions of people have succeeded with.
Not sure why you continue to ignore this FACT.
NO its not for everybody except for millions it has worked for and the millions it will continue to help all around the world.
I especially love how Vape Shops are now in 2 UK hospitals..Good work UK Govt. Lives over money...WELL DONE!!!

I have advocated smart turkey for the most part, but since we are all different and some feel the need to take baby steps, that is their decision and I back them as everyone is different. These aids are temporary and certainly less harmful than continued smoking. I have faith that those who truly wish to quit smoking can. You may have quit smoking AndrewCam, but you are not free. You are still addicted to nicotine and slave to its timetable.

Here on iCanQuit we offer the whole package, no nicotine dependency, a healing of the mind to return to the way we were born, without inhaling anything but gold ol' fresh air. Our way offers a sense of pride and self worth along with a betterment of health and a fatter bank account. The pride that we can boast that we beat the devil and be a mentor to others. We help each other to achieve ALL these goals. What have you achieved? As i see it vaping is counter-productive except perhaps for some as a temporary aid which clearly you and your supporters did not. You are still at the mercy of nicotine and will be forever while those here will be totally free.
  • Rikki December 10, 2019 | 15:55
Because I seen this link on Facebook, maybe you are having more people from the general public comment. Using E cigarettes to stop smoking is the most popular and effective method in 2019. And is saving more lives than any other nicotine replacement product. So it's probably long overdue to have people mentioning their succes. And health benefits.
  • Pisces24, Central Coast December 10, 2019 | 16:04
It's still smoking. We want to STOP smoking not get a Placido. You need to break your habit not replace it with another one.
  • AndrewCam, Western Sydney December 10, 2019 | 16:05
This is the IcanQuit page under methods.
    See the last one??
    You contradict yourself Happiness???
I am confused as to your agenda really.

    Hi guys,
I'm not sure how I feel about a well planed bombardment of vaping advocates, within a few hours?
On one hand I have heard that vaping causes lung inflammation and cancer. And on the other hand so does smoking......
And I must say that I dont know the difference between an E-cigarette or vaping. I'm totally ignorant with them.
Im thinking that the moderator of this website needs to have a look over the last few hours to see what they can make of this. But these guys do have every right to join a public forum..................
  • BethP December 10, 2019 | 16:08
AndrewCam, -, you're pissing me off! I smoked my last cigarette exactly 1 year ago today. Mostly because I went into the hospital for surgery. I spent the next 9 days there. So , I had a step up that most don't have. While in ICU, I was given nicotine patches. When I got out, my husband got me a CBD vape pen, no THC, just CBD,. No tobacco. No tar, no nicotine. 2 weeks later and I didn't need the vape pen. You aren't quitting smoking. You're still putting poison in your system and damaging your lungs. So, I am putting forth a suggestion. You have given us all "your facts" . If anyone wants to read "your facts," they're there to read. But now-STOP! JUST STOP!!
  • Rikki December 10, 2019 | 16:20
Vaping is not smoking, it does not contain smoke or the same chemicals as smoke, it doesn't burn anything and it is generally quite safe, and my lungs are healthy as any non smokers. I don't need self righteous attitudes telling me I'm a smoker. I would challenge any of you to go for a run and compare my lungs to yours. Vaping helped my entire family stop smoking and four of my closest friends, and we are all healthy as oxes now. Why is that bad?
  • AndrewCam, Western Sydney December 10, 2019 | 16:33
Happiness I actually don't vape at all anymore so again your information and advice is incorrect.
I smoked over a packed of cigarettes a day.
I started on 12mg Nicotine and withing 3 mths was down to 6mg nicotine.
At the 12 month point I dropped to 3mg nicotine and now 18mths and no vaping or cigarettes.
    What a success story huh!!

    As THIS site says.

For the greatest chance of success, it’s helpful to be open to all the evidence-based quit smoking methods explained in this section. The good news is, if one quit method doesn’t work out, you can always try another!

    Hi BethP.
My heart breaks to hear your story but am also happy you have succeeded with your own methods. Well done and keep up the good work.
I am not sure why I am upsetting you as I am only defending the attack and bombardment from other members when I told my story.
Not sure about CBD vaping and it has nothing to do with traditional vaping and would not suggest this method at all.
I wish you well and all the health and happiness life can bring.
    Best wishes and Merry Christmas
    AndrewCam
  • Rikki December 10, 2019 | 17:06
I thought this was a quit smoking support page? And who are you to call me or anyone else some kind of sinister nicotine dealer? I came here to share my story and help others with theirs. I don't need some self righteous attitude telling me I quit the wrong way. What a disgusting attitude. And I'm quite frankly surprised at the attack on people who used vapourisers to quit on this page. I clicked on this link on Facebook and shared it in a quit smoking group for people using vapourisers. So you can expect more people sharing their stories using vapes to quit smoking. Sorry if that is unacceptable to you or you think less of people because of that. That attitude is awful. We are here to help people quit smoking, not be self righteous.
  • PuffNoMore, Southern NSW December 10, 2019 | 18:08
    OK
Thank you for explaining Rikki. Do We need to expect more stories from people using vapourises . Is that right? So you clicked on this link on Facebook and you shared it with people in a Quit group that use Vapes,? that can explain the bombardment of Vape advocates all over a few hours.
Thank you for explaining that to us.
I'm not sure what stance the cancer council in Australia takes on Vaping? I think they are not advocating for it at this time and I dont think they ever will!
Lets just you stick to your Vaping group of people and we'll stick to Our QUIT community.
Sorry, But, You should grow your on community and not push your Vape on us....
  • Nuts December 10, 2019 | 18:41
To AndrewCam and Rikki. You have both had your say and we have listened. Doesnt mean that we support what you are saying. Vaping is not a good idea. Especially if you use it with nicotine. You need to break the hold that nicotine has on you and the hand to mouth motion. Why do you need to breath anything other than fresh air . Some people find quitting harder than others and our little quit family are here with support and encouragement. Not to push vaping onto them. Tell your vaping companies to leave us alone. They are only out to take your money.
  • Rikki December 10, 2019 | 19:06
Nuts, sorry you feel that way. But vaping is proving to be the most effective cessation process in history for the exact reason you think it is bad. It's familiarity is what helps people slowly reduce their nicotine consumption until zero. 60% more effective than patches or gum. You will soon see hundreds of people enjoying the health benefits of quitting smoking using vapourisers. It's too successful to be ignored. And I should be allowed to tell others how I quit and my wife brother family and friends quit for good. So tell your friends to stop bullying us for quitting our way. No one was pushing anything, only sharing our stories untill we started getting attacked for it. This is a quit smoking page, not a moral superiority page. Whatever works to get people off cigarettes and improving their health is what matters.
  • Nuts December 10, 2019 | 19:33
I am pleased that you and your loved ones have quit, but we will have to agree to disagree on your methods. I dont think that breathing in any other substance while trying to quit smoking if helpful. You need to break the habit as well as the addiction.
  • PuffNoMore, Southern NSW December 10, 2019 | 19:52
    Happiness ,
You must be exhausted with the barrage from the vaping movement, take a rest, regenerate for your true followers that benefit from your wise advice. . Not sure but, you dont need to justify yourself with this vaping group.
    REMEMBER
WE CANT PLEASE ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME

  • Happiness December 10, 2019 | 20:16
You are right PuffNoMore. They are just cravings ;)
  • PuffNoMore, Southern NSW December 10, 2019 | 20:35
yes we found out how they came to be on this site. we have listened to their point of view. we might have to expect more vapers here now???? lol
Facebook seems like the have an affiliation or link so expect more members!
    or
Maybe this was one small group of a Quit group of Vapers, I dont know?
In any case take it easy and you dont need to represent everybody.
Its going to be interesting if vaping takes off! It could happen legally in this country, but we are still holding off and I dont think it will happen????
  • Rikki December 10, 2019 | 21:19
Well we definitely will have to disagree, because vaping is 60% more effective than patches or gum. That means if ten people quit using patches, if they used vapourisers 16 people would quit instead. And with a in 50% death toll for smokers that's three extra lives saved. See why I want to promote it? Why on earth would you want more people to die?
  • TryingTK December 11, 2019 | 2:13
I’m curious as to why the vape supporters had to come out and defend vaping, when they were initially not being criticized at all. It seems as though they are trying to justify it to themselves. They are talking to many people who have quit all forms of smoking, to what end? To try to convince them to take up vaping?

I have battled a lot of addictions in my life, and often, in the process of defeating it, you come across a nice half measure. Then, I would hastily argue in support of my half measure, but that’s because I was really trying to justify it to myself.

I went the vaping method. And then I started smoking again, because it never really gets rid of the itch. It’s like being addicted to coke and switching to Diet Coke. I know many others who’ve had the same problem.

Using it as a tool to cut down is one thing, but as a long term solution? I don’t see it.

I would just suggest asking yourself. What is vaping actually doing for me? Do I enjoy being a salve to this, even though it may or may not be better than smoking.
  • Happiness December 11, 2019 | 3:36
I don't know why the infiltration last night TryingTK. I welcomed the first couple and advised them as normal. I don't think i have ever advised anyone not to use it as a quit aid except when they come back flaunting it after they failed here and clearly didn't take part in our community while doing so . Those clearly didn't want to quit smoking, just find a cheaper way of smoking and /or perhaps a safter way. Who wouldn't think that it would be safer, yet I would not want to be the guinea pig to find out later that it could be worse. I doubt really that it is worse because we all no how many chemicals are in a cigarette and how it is detrimental to our health.

As you point out, this is a community where many have already quit smoking. Some are still struggling to keep on the right side. I have faith in them and hope they find the comfort and drive and faith in themselves to continue on the path to free. That is what we strive to secure for people. Freedom . Freedom from the relentless cravings that take us from things in life to fix the nicotine desire. Those cravings are still there with vaping with nicotine.
I like you, Trying TK see vaping as a half measure and hate for people to settle for less than they deserve. It is an easy half measure because nicotine is involved and nicotine will again control your mind.

I very much resent their attitude and lack of communication to initially explain why each was there. Instead of answering they chose to ignore and then bait. They remind me of wolves who wait for one who is lagging behind and pounce. They prey on the weak minded.

I can only hope that those who were here previously have learned enough to know that there is a different between quitting smoking and quitting smoking and being free. I guess that is the difference to be stressed in the future.

Thanks for your common sense and support. We need more members like you. Who knows, by them coming here, maybe a few of the followers will seek the full deal....freedom.
  • AndrewCam, Western Sydney December 11, 2019 | 10:17
    To Pisces24, Happiness and TryingTK.
I am so horrified and shaken by your constant touts and ridicule.
You obviously didn't my read my story as I have 4 children so my "age group" was discrimination.
Next I don't need to explain my story to you but I will with shaking hands.
Being left a single father due to lung cancer I needed to find anyway possible to quit smoking.
Having tried every method numerous time, then to have champix which NEARLY caused ME to not be here for my children I found VAPING.

35 years of smoking and now I don't even vape, which by the way is NOT smoke.

I don't wish to argue (especially about political standpoints and agenda some clearly know nothing about) and only came on here to tell my success story but have received nothing but abuse.
I would rather see my children vape then smoke but thank GOD and my friends around me I am now free and can be here till the end for my children.

Sorry I upset you so much but if you had just read my story for what it was and accepted this worked for me and millions of others I wouldn't feel so much pain right now.
    Great support room
    Thanks

You will not hear anything but support from me
  • Happiness December 26, 2019 | 17:08
Andrew is not sorry at all. He did not volunteer that he was nicotine free, it was almost as if he were ashamed of that fact.....
The vape movement is about support for the nicotine companies, tobacco companies switching venues. Us their long time customers are dying off and the need to hook the next generation is the goal. While some may truly believe it is the lesser of two evils, why would he be so upset with the fact that we question and want answers before jumping on the bandwagon?

While it could be used as a possible nrt, he and his friend Rikki were not supporting it for that. They clearly said that quitting nicotine was secondary.

How many people would try to quit the nicotine addiction if they had not joined a site like this to know better. They would gladly follow the Pied Piper.

When falling over the cliff, I am sure they all thought....so far, so good......
