Holiday jitters

Posted in Hints and tips 28 Jul 2019

Hi everyone. I'm going on a week's holiday with the money now saved. I'm in a quandary as I'll reach my 100 days while away. I gave up using combination nrt the patches are long gone but I still have the occasional gum. I was planning to give up the gum while away-on holidays, relaxing, no need for nrt etc but reading posts I'm not sure if this is a good idea. Softly and andies both caved on holidays and this has me wondering. One of the group is a smoker, it doesn't bother me here but it may do when we are away. Any advice would be great. Thankyou all for your great support. Let's all take a nice deep breath...because we can!

I was more vigilant this time around FreshAirOk I succeeded where I had failed before. Safe has the right idea of None or Nope to repeat to yourself. I chose: "I will not need a cigarette for any reason before, during and after this holiday" but then I tend to be wordie.

I didn't have the support of this forum before either, so this thought kept me on the straight and narrow. Its up to you in respect of the gum, as Happiness said you can buy some, but you don't have to take any. I have enjoyed your input, so come back refreshed and happy with yourself.

Enjoy your well deserved holiday. Remember NOPE mantra - not one puff ever and you’ll be just fine. Otherwise One puff will lead to another and on and on and soon enough you’ll be back to square one. Good luck and have fun.

Hi FreshAirOK. Almost in 100 days and just the occassional Nicorette gum? You are probably so low in nicotine as to be negligible when you wake in the morning. Even on Day 1 cold turkey the nicotine is 93% out of your body. Nicotine in the bloodstream drops by 50% every 2 hours.

You have done the hardest part of the journey, the nicotine addiction is over quickly in comparison. That said, why not take the gum with you "just in case" but chew regular gum to see if satisfies the urge. Who knows, you just may come home nicotine free as well as smoke free. You will be active and enjoying life with your friends, i bet you don't give smoking much thought if any at all.

Take a breath and look forward to enjoying your vacation as a non-smoker with no time-outs! Be free! Enjoy!
