Learning about myself

Great I am still 60 days without Nicotine and Tar. I am beginning to understand more about myself in the process, mainly the reactive feelings in dealing with confrontation with others. I have kept things low key to begin with but I have had two incidents which I tried to handle (not successfully) with others. I tend to be friendly most of the time, but when I get angry or upset, I seem to hang on to this feeling for too long and still need to attend a meeting this afternoon, where I will have to be non emotional so to speak, but feel emotional inside still. (Body Corp meeting). I have written out 3 points and just hope I can keep my cool enough to not go down to the shops and buy those nasty things after the meeting. Any tips on this would be appreciated.

    Is there anything worth risking your own well being. Cut your nose off to spite your face?

    You have worked to hard for this quit and other things in life to give in to a heated moment, no matter how right you may be. Take a breath, calm down and step back. Do you have a close friend or spouse to vent with? Sometimes a good bit ch session lets off steam enough to let it go.

    Congrats on your sixty days and great attitude towards your happy non-smoker status.

    My hubby reads these posts, but has not joined. He suggests meditation. I hear it is good for the soul, relaxation and destressing.

    Thanks Happiness and thanks to your hubby. You are right of course, y I already have a bar of chocolate waiting for me, its mostly the heat of the moment thing. Gave myself a good talking to and vowed not to raise my voice at all. I do meditate in quieter times but obviously this doesn't always work for me. I will not be going to the shops either, I have already done my shopping. Many thanks

    You are welcome softly, and i commend you for doing so well and reflecting and understanding yourself. It seems you just need to get over that last hurdle and fully accept the journey. You are over the worst, you seems to understand nicotine and its place. (or rather lack of place or need in your life)Continue to make other changes in your life that please you. I hope you are enjoying your new friendships with people rather than the cigarette. You seemed so happy in doing so.

    Keep up the great attitude and soon you will put it all behind you!

    Thank you for your kind words Softly. I do try to change up the analogies as I have said quite a lot over 6 months and fresh ideas or a different perspective can sometimes strike a chord. I am grateful to be free and pleased to spend my leisure time assisting others to achieve what i have. They in turn help others and so the word is passed on that quitting smoking is quite doable, and sometimes not even as hard as you once thought.

    After quitting smoking, i thought that losing a few pounds would be easy.....not so. I feel great, eating better than ever but that is my struggle. It only takes a few hours to quit smoking. It takes a few months to lose 20 lbs. despite the motivation. Nicotine is an addiction. Food is a necessity. So I thank my body for holding up so well despite the years of abuse by feeding it as well as I can while losing weight slowly.

    I did not gain the weight while quitting smoking as some fear. Exercise not only keeps the weight down, but enhances your mood during a quit and more energy to cope. I didn't. I need motivation to exercise too! Quitting smoking came easy to me but that does not mean everything does. Everyone is different.

    I'm hoping your email notification is on..
    I used the Report Abuse tab, on IcanQuit's last post, to ask them directly, if they are even paying attention. I got the same blank response, that they were going to try this for a couple weeks. DUH.. By then, we will be tired of complaining, and they will think it is ok. I really hate the new paging system, more than the TopStories.. Rather than messing with post here, and disturbing new quitters, If you agree with me, and just want it back like it was, tell them here,,

    Hi Red I will be happy to help, went to the website I couldn't see under what heading is best to leave my comments? Most likely under Data Research/Policies and I am guessing a Grant has been sought for this programme to be run. I think this would be better than posting here because new people would find it hard enough to stop smoking in the early stages rather than debate with Admin.

    Red I didn't go through all my emails and found one from the Cancer Institute in reply to my feedback on the "IcanQuit site", with a name to reply to, and an explanation of what they are trying to achieve for new users only. If anyone wants the name and web address I can provide this for you. In the meantime still going strong. This means that they are listening but still we can complain or give feedback through this avenue.

    Thanks, I sent that to 7 other regular users, and so far, 2 of you have responded. The easy way, is to just use the Report Abuse tab, to get the email address.. I doubt any of them, even use the forum. My biggest complaint, is the new paging system, even more than the Top Stories. I will tell you the same thing I told Happyness.. I bet you a pack of smokes, HaHa,, users will get tired of complaining, and IcanQuit, will think this is fine, and it will stay like this.
