Hi All,

So I quit 157 days ago.. this last week has been so awful, (work stresses) and I have smoked about 15 smokes in a week, last night alone I smoked 5, drank 3 cans and cried.. I want to take them back up.. How do I avoid this.. has anyone else had this experience? what did you do?

Cheers in advance..

Hi, yes I think we all have. Don't beat yourself up, you are only human. I was up to 100 days I think and stress got the better of me, I stopped again then started again and now I'm back here after taking it up again for too long. I was so angry at myself and felt I'd let everyone here down that I never posted again, went on my merry smoking little way for a while but now I'm back in full force. Everyone here is so supportive, I should never have stopped take it from me.....please pick another quite date and start again, just don't stop trying and don't leave the site, even if you fail again, doesn't matter. You don't want to get 2 years down the track and go oh my god has it really been that long then have to start all over again, may as well just do it NOW!!! there's no time to waste......but please give yourself a break, you slipped up, don't worry about it, trust me we all know how you feel. Even if you feel you have to finish the packet or whatever. Just get your head right again and stay with us! Read Allan Carrs book if you haven't already. good luck.

I haven't even brought a packet just been bumming off my partner, but am tempted to buy 1 pack of 25's and once they go stop again.. I cant afford to take it back up but I just feel as if I need them. but I know I don't its doing my head in. I hate my job and its just pushing me towards smoking.. and I know I shouldn't hate myself for it but I do I am letting myself and everyone else down. if the people at work find out that will just cause more dramas.. I just don't know what to do.. I don't want to spend all that money again but I want a pack of smokes.. Argh..

That is one reason I kept that pack when I quit.. I had to make it something I did not want. Remember the short list, of great stuff you get from smokes,, Acetone, Acetic Acid, Ammonia, Arsenic, Benzene, Butane, Cadmium, Carbon Monoxide, Formaldehyde, Hexamine, Lead, Naphthalene, Methanol, Tar, Toluene, and of course, Nicotine !! Nothing to WANT there :)
If you really need the help, don't buy a pack, buy a disposable Ecig, with nicotine, and use it as a crutch for the hard times.. You can take a puff or two, and put it down.. That way, you only get enough NRT to kill the crave..
Find a way to make that smoke something you do NOT WANT.. It makes the quit so much easier :)

I gave up a 1000 times atleast. Relapse, relapse etc. Horrible cycle. I have an aunt who is basically dying and having basically living a hideous existence because of her smoking lead to stomach cancer and terrible gum disease. Another 2 friends, have very serious issues. I just know it catches up with you and when it does, living can become very unbearable. What's the point? Just put as much effort as you can, keep busy, expect the cravings and plan how to get through them. You sound determined but relapses can and do happen. But if prepare for cravings or times you might cave, you hopefully can keep your resolve. Good luck.

157 days is a tremendous effort, you can do it again. What about a fresh start, have you thought about ditching the job and starting something new that doesn't cause so much stress. Lifes too short to be stuck doing something we hate and trying to kill ourselves with cigarettes because of it. We need to live life as happily as we can.

Hi Butters, Most of ex smokers, including myself, went through slip ups a few times. Don't give up, chew gum and keep going.

Hi Butters, Temptations and slip ups are all part of this you cant ignore them only try to avoid them, you know you can get back up there and how to do it hang in there and try again before it goes on for to long, you can do it. One Day at a Time.
