thank you Robn and Happiness, everyone that reaches this site are willing to give them up. i understand how hard it is but there are so many toxins in tobacco and its been proven that smoking will kill you.i beg you all to give them up. once you pass the first week you start to realize your health is starting to improve. yes the craving is terrible but when you shout out NO this tends to calm you...
I am so far 45 days into my quit plan..After going to the doctors and being told that I have C.O.P.D and probably only 50% lung capacity,I thought it was a good idea to do something before it got worse .with sone luck i may regain 75% lung capacity but as for the rest their is no cure.
I got to a stage that everytime i was breathless i would smoke..i would do a task but after a minute or two i ...
I have bipolar disorder and smoking helped me for a long time but when I was given a chance to be part of the nsw riot squad as in the nsw police force and help out in the Mardi gras and protest or rally's I wanted to give up on smoking to be able to help the community and members of the public to feel safe and secure and the children as well but most of to save money

Just want want to quit. Not heavy smoker but have 1 year old now and I think it’s best it I quit.
My 2 year old loves to run, every day he says "Daddy I want to run" at first I could keep pace with him by walking but as the weeks went by I found I was having to jog to keep pace, it was then I realised that he is not going to slow down, he will only get faster and why should my smoking disadvantage him, it's not fair on him, so I made my appointment with the doctor for Champix, and I have bee...
30 days for me now and think really getting on top of it now. Still determined but has been a challenge. A big boost today was when I saw a guy put out a smoke and walk past. God the smell was so strong. I used to wash my hands and pop mints thinking I was all good. God my poor wife.

After seeing deterioration of my teeth and gums, and lack in health, I took that as a massive wake up call. I wish I had never ever picked up this awful habit.
I don’t know if this is the right column to share my concern. I used to smoke a lot back in the 90s. I decided to quit smoking in 2005 and I never smoke till last year. I was stress and I just find myself smoking again. Now I want to quit again but I am having a hard time quitting. Most of the time I feel upset and depressed after smoking.
Better my health and have more money
after 10 weeks of quitting (please dont laugh) i purchased a piano,2 guitars,an amplifier, a violin, 6 rods and reels and a Mohamed Ali memorabilia. Next will be a drum set so my grandchildren can run a riot when they visit me. dont you think its time to give the smokes away and enjoy your spending's in a more fun way.
I started at 19 to stupidly impress someone. It's now been 6 years and I have wasted most of my 20s on the stupid habit. I have lied to my parents trying to hide my habit, my hair reeks, my clothes smell like crap and I cant get the yellow stains off my teeth. I cant run 10 metres without losing breath and I cant smell the flowers in spring or the rain during a thunderstorm. I've seen so many peo...
Writing this out in case i can help others on there journey.
- my mother passed away from cancer when i was 13, she was a smoker too, if any of you have a similar story use that as a strength to help stay quit.
- find something to keep your hands busy. Look up a diy craft on YouTube. Knit. Or draw, colour in, video games. I make pom poms silly but they work at keeping me busy.
- exercise, try ...

I am leading up to my quit date! I have decided to kick the habit for my three beautiful children
Lung cancer didn’t scare me but high cholesterol & smoking link sure did. I’m 54. Smoked & quit so many times but can’t do it anymore. Have 2 recovering addict kids who have kicked heroin. So I think I can do this. Dr told me smoking & cholesterol are linked and for some freaky reason that scares me more than the million other threats. Day 3 today. Sobbed at work. People think I’ve lost my mind. ...
I guess my story is similar to everyone elses. i did quit 7 years ago for 7 months, when my life fell apart i started again.
Im one of two people in the office that smokes and the non smokers always give me the LOOK when i step out for a smoke. You now the LOOK right?? I hate that!! And with rising tabacco prises ive finally come to the decision to give`em up. I am on day 5 with Champix, althoug...
When I decided to quit smoking it was because I wasn't enjoying it as much as I used to and was just smoking because I could. I now unfortunately have a very different reason to stay quit. A couple of days ago I was diagnosed with COPD stage one emphysema, which is a progressive lung disease. I was lucky in a way that it was caught early. Since then i feel like i could really do with a cigarette...
I have decided to quit today . I have been a chain smoker for the past 3 years and i am sick of this habit since its making me weak .
The only thing that stops my craving is nicotine gums
I like to smoke but have realised lately that I REALLY am not enjoying them as I used to.
About 80% of my smokes I would only smoke about 3/4 of the cigarette anyway before butting our and thought this is a waste.
But how do I break the stranglehold these things have over me as I have been smoking for 30 years?
Perhaps it’s my daughter telling me I smell; perhaps it’s the financial strain I am...

I am divorced and earlier this summer in August (I am from Chicago) I had a planned vacation to London with my 9 year old son. I have been smoking since I was 25 but always wanted to quit.
On August 3rd Friday, I smoked my last cigarette before I went to pick up my son from his mom's place to catch our flight to London. I left the cigarette packet on the kitchen island.
The 7 days in Lond...
Well, here goes my story. I know that as soon as I read it back once written, I will consider myself an idiot for not quitting sooner.
I started smoking around 20 years of age and am currently 55 years old.
I smoked around 20 a day, every day, and led an active life with many outdoor hobbies. Other than menopause and turning lactose intolerant, I’d had no health scares at all. Young and bull...
Hi, today is my first day on Champix and to say I’m scared would be an understatement. I’m 45 and have smoked since the age of 16. I get that it’s better going through the side effect, nausea etc than chemo, but I’m really worried as I have a pretty stressful job and need to on my A game all the time. Any helpful tips would be gratefully appreciated.
Hi..I'm new here! I am planning on quitting this week! I am on day 3 of Wellbutrin. Other than dry mouth, cant tell much yet. The cigs do taste kinda weird. I don't know whether to stop on Day 7 of Wellbutrin..or..just play it by ear and see what happens.☺
I started smoking ( Peer pressure) at about 16 yrs of age. I didn't smoke a lot (maybe 20 a month) up until I was 25. I then quit (cold turkey) for 15 yrs. I had a cigarette just before my 40 th birthday "BANG" I found myself smoking 15 a day. For the next 10 yrs I was hooked. I promised myself that I would stop on my 50 th and to date have been successful. I used lozengers for the first 6 weeks...
I also wanted to add one more thing. Once you quit smoking, you’ll be amazed at your lung capacity. When I was a smoker, I would be out of breath from walking one or two city blocks - absolutely exhausted, huffing, puffing, gasping for air. Now, I power walk everywhere with my dog and am never out of breath. Maybe tired because I have lupus but never out of breath. It - Is - Wonderful!
I have to have more willpower! Day 37
Remain determined not to be a slave to addiction. Physical withdrawals, while difficult, can be managed. It’s the mental and emotional triggers which are most challenging. Lots of positive self talk, CBT, mindfulness....whatever works. When the urge to smoke strikes, tell yourself that you are strong enough to let the urge pass. Remind yourself at such times that “I don’t smoke”.
I smoked for 35 years heavily at least 30 a day and now have reached 160 days not smoking. I still have the thought I will have a cigarette when I put the key in the door at home after work and many other times through my day and night as I am a shift worker. I am ok with the fact that this mind trick will be with me for the rest of my life ,but instead of a negative it's a reminder that I am fre...

anyone who smokes or has a lung disease
We had an opportunity at work to try a breathing test to see how much carbon monoxide was in our breath. I was a bit scared as even though I have quit, I was a long term smoker. One of the heavy smokers did the test and scored over 20ppm (parts per million), the other smokers scored around 10ppm. A female who has never smoked scored 2ppm, so I thought I would try and scored 4ppm, which is a reall...
Well it’s day 3 today hope I can keep going the cravings are still very high up there atm but my trying and so far I haven’t fallin. It’s also day 3 for my hubby I really don’t want to be at each other’s wits hopefully we can do this together
Not a tip rather a question? How depressed do u get from Champix? I’m not in a good place right now health issues and I know smoking is killing me but if depression is that strong from Champix not sure if I should do it?? I hate waking up already.

Stress was unbearable and I gave in

I am currently in hospital in Sydney Australia, came in after viral infection and could not breath and was admitted immediately. I have been here 3 days now. They got me back on track but, it was a really frightening experience.
In the morning a lung capacity test will advise if/what stage of Emphysema I have. Im really scared to be honest with you.
I know firsthand what it feels like not to ...
There is no such thing as one puff. There is no such thing as one cigarette. There is no such thing as one pack. The only thing at the end of a cigarette is another cigarette. There is not a single way they improve your life and you pay for every single one.
Fresh air seems a good choice.
