Hello team Quit,

It has been 7 months and I have saved over $5,000. I don’t dream I have smoked anymore, it is a nice change.

One thing I have been consistently concerned about is complacency and I think it has reared a few times. My husband still smokes, sometimes I think, god I’ll just have a drink and a smoke. I haven’t drunk alcohol for as long as I haven’t smoked, and I am sure my body loves me for it. But there you go, complacency hits and I have random thoughts still. They pass. I carry on.

I haven’t got anything wonderful to add, I suppose there is a quietness at 7 months, I no longer crave or want a cigarette and I am still 5 months away from my goal. So it’s a little uninteresting.

On a positive note I wear very subtle perfume these days and I think I smell just wonderful, and it means a lot to me.

I will be back at 12 months to finish this wonderful journey. I feel younger, I look younger (ha lies!!), I have cleaner teeth, nicer gums, and imagine my healing body everyday.

My husband has tried to quit several times since I have stopped. He is always going to “try”. But there is always an occasion he “will”. That sort of thinking is simply set up to fail and useless. But you have to feel it in yourself to no it, language is important, can and want help I find.

I wish you all the very best!

:)

Hi Bej. I cannot give you advise but I can tell you that I very much admire your strength making it to 7 months, and the fact that you are determined not to stop but continue to your next milestone of 12 months.

Your post gives me encouragement,.. the way you express your quit as a wonderful journey. Thank you for your words. As a "newbie", it is always great to hear how wonderful it is to be a non-smoker. YOU inspire me!

Congratulations on 7 months and I am certain you will make it you your next 12 month milestone and will keep on going month after month year after year.

All the best Bej.

Yes, words convey different meanings. When you say that in 5 months you will have reached your goal, that is to mean a short term goal.....one year, and then continue year after year. Life is great as a non-smoker is it not? You still hope that someday your husband will also enjoy that status.

Might, and try and some day, are difinitive, and useless. I will, I can and now, are assertive and the right way to think. We cannot make someone quit smoking before they are ready. I am sure your husband is secretly loathing you for being so happy while he is still afraid to even "try".

One day , he may decide he too is ready. I quit while my husband smoked beside me. He quit 2 weeks later. We need to quit for ourselves, because WE want to. He usually mentioned about needing to quit smoking and I would nod, never dreaming that one day I would. I thought that that was my fate and that I was helpless to change it. I was, until I found the belief from a site like this, that yes I could quit. And easily I might add.

I am 1010 days in, and hubby right behind. He was terrified when I told him I had quit! He also found it easy, as did my daughter. They both read Allen Carr's book first. The right mindset really really helps.

Looking forward to hearing from you again soon or in 5 months. You're doing great!

Bej I think your whole story is wonderful. Thank you so much for the pre warning on complacency I have made a mental note of it so I can avoid falling into its trap. What perfume are you using because I'm looking for a new one myself.? 💃

Congratulations Bej, I believe complacency is underrated, after my 3rd attempt, I will keep my NOPE (not one puff ever) foremost in my mind. There have been many times when I have thought about it again, but of course it never came to anything. Thank goodness we have our money to spend on ourselves and others, and even save some for the future you should be all caught up on your bills too.

Regarding your husband, you have said it all, "you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink" Well done.
