- Chewing gum did it for me.
Chewing gum did it for me.

January of this year was the time I said no more. There was no reason to give up, it was just that I had had enough and felt it was time. I knew I couldn't go cold turkey so I looked, and tried a few options, until I found one that worked for me. I tried patches, champix, sprays and then Nicabate chewing gum. Funnily enough the chewing gum seemed to work from day one. I started with the 4mg and limited myself to a maximum of ten pieces a day. As the days went on I found the biggest benefit was in my wallet. I bought the big box of 210 pieces. These cost me a bit more than a packet of cigarettes but lasted three weeks, and I was a pack a day smoker. After six weeks I went down to the 2mg and then on to plain chewing gum. I stopped chewing altogether about three weeks ago. Sure I ate more and put on a few kilos but my breathing got easier and I started to walk after dinner. I now walk for a solid hour and I have also started swimming as well. If from reading the above it sounds like it was easy, well it wasn't. I had times of struggle and felt like I was never going to make it. In the early days I would go to bed at 7.30 sometimes rather than suffer from wanting a smoke. My dad once told me that when it came to smoking there were three types of people. There are non smokers, there are smokers, and lastly there are smokers who didn't smoke. I guess I am happy to be in the last catagory.

I’ve been debating on trying the chewing gum but this just sold me. Will have to try the Nicabate brand. Good on you for a solid 11 months, keep it up and enjoy your extra cash flow.
