Champix

Posted in Staying quit
schedule 6 Jul 2018

Hi all. I am on track with the no smoking. Stopped on June 11 and still taking Champix. Have had no reactions to the tablets. Last time I tried them I nearly when off my head. This time I was determined to give up and so I worked with the tablets and not against them. I also gave up the wine the same day. Too much of a temptation. The raucous cough I had has gone and I no longer lay in bed listening to my wheezing. I feel so much better but seem to be hungry all the time. A glass of water helps the hunger pains. LOL! I hope you are all getting through it all and feeling better in yourselves.

Hello, l am also on champix, have nearly finished week 4. Have not smoked for 2 weeks, l have had side effects l did not like at all while on the the full dose. So l took the 2 tabs per day for as long as I could then about a week ago l halved the dose. Have had no side effects now at all and still smoke free. I take one around 1pm. Good luck on champix l hope it works out for you this time.

Hi Isabelle. What side affects did you get? I only got nausea but by taking the tablet half way through a meal fixed the problem.

schedule 23 Jul 2018

I gave Champix a go almost 10 years ago, after about 2 weeks in I had my last ciggy due to the taste factor and the cravings were minimal. I took myself off the Champix a couple of weeks after my last ciggy due to it doing weird things to me on a mental level. I never had any physical side effects tho. 9 months later I was smoking again.

I am giving Champix another shot, I am in the beginning of my 2nd course of tab's (5th week). I am noticing this time round the effects of the drug isn't working as quickly as it did 10 years ago, so I haven't had my last ciggy yet as it's only been the last 2 days that both the yuk ciggy taste and less cravings have started to kick in. Starting to feel a bit weirder than usual again also!!

Okay kaki-manda, it's now the time for you to put mind over matter. You have to fight the 'weird' feelings as this is the nicotine telling you that you have to have a smoke. You have to work with the Champix, don't fight it. I fought it when I tried it a few years back and the smokes won again. I don't have the nausea as I take the tablet halfway between my meal. I have had a couple of 'queer' feelings and 'bad temper' days but I'm determined that I will finish the course of Champix and be free of nicotine forever. I am now 6 weeks smoke free and am feeling so much better plus have so much money in my pocket. I am on the 13th week of Champix. You can do it. Don't let the nicotine win, you are stronger than that.

Congrats Steve01 do hope I travel as well as you.

Hi Jatchat. Take the tablet in between your meal and this will stop any nausea. Are you still smoking?
