What have I missed?

Today I signed a lease for a new rental property since our lease has expired on my existing one. Big deal?

Yeah, except it reminded me that if I had not started smoking 40 years I would have been buying this house, with cash.

Nearly a month since I've quit. Why the heck did it take so long!?

We all do things in our own time. Don't be too hard on yourself. Focus on the positives. Good luck with your journey

Hi SA Stevo. There is unfortunately no manual to guide us through life. Eventually it makes sense and we would like nothing better than to beat ourselves up when the light bulb lights up having ignored so many warning signs. As we age we discover there is an urgency to see the reality of life. Hard to do when youth blurs the lines of reality and what lies ahead. Be grateful that you have discovered the need to make changes and that this is your decision.

It took going through what you did to get to where you are today. The most important element to take away from the experience is that you are now taking care of your health and are being proactive for your future.

A month quit is terrific! You have gone beat the 3 day mark and 3 week mark. Congratulations!
