Hi everyone, I haven't been on this site for a while, which is probably why I have had a slip up recently. My son has been suspended from school after a long period of good behaviour. This put me over the edge. In two weeks I have had 6 cigarettes, some of them only a few puffs. But three days ago I bought a packet, still couldn't smoke any until the end. Today, I found myself trying to escape so I could hide from my kids so I could puff on. Feeling sick, physically and mentally that I had come so far and I succumbed to stress and anger. Anyway, my good news story is the last trip I made to "hide" today I noticed a gentleman and a lady smoking. I asked them if they would take the remainder of the packet I had bought because I was quitting. They obliged thankfully, because I have never been able to throw out cigarettes and would have smoked them. So, here I am again ... on the website, buying gum, planning my walk etc.

Hey there Drama72, It happens and my hats off to you for owning up to it and getting back on track. I did a similar thing two years ago and it was also from being overwhelmed with stress from my son. I got back on board (though not as fast as you!) and I am now over 12 months quit. You learnt from this and you know that smoking hasn't un-suspended him so for future you will know that its not going to help, just cause you more stress.( un-suspended is so a made up word!)

Be strong, talk to your boy and find out what is going on in his mind. You are in control here with your addiction to nicotine even if it doesn't feel like it at times.

Hi Drama72. So sorry you caved in. Hope you have good communication with your son. Life is tough. Might be hard for him to express his thinking. Hope you keep the communication channel open and not judgemental. Get help if you need the intervention. Meanwhile, have you realised that you caving in did absolutely nothing to solve the behaviour problem of your son, nor will it ever. MOMENTS LIKE THIS REMIND US THAT A PUFF OF SMOKE IS NOT A SOLUTION TO ANYTHING. If it was we would just have one ginormous bonfire, destroy all problems and life would suddenly be pure and good... See where I am coming from? Power to you as you try again.
