"HauntingHabit"

Just on 9mths. quit. Cravings have virtually subsided. Problem is the dreaded habit left behind after 52yrs of puffing. Rather funny actually, my hand reaches into my pocket at times unknowingly for a pack. Other times i head outside during tv adds before remembering i am quit. Strange part is i do not have the craving whilst these issues are taking place. Like to hear from long term quitters whether this was part of their experience also. Anyway i do not take it hard, just laugh the moments off. In time i am sure the habit will subside. Good luck. Cheers.

Margaret Thatcher! What can I say? Wasn't my idea to smoke. It was hers. Therefore I haven't had a battle with myself. Probably, definitely would have lost that one, over and over. Much easier to say "No" toMargaret. A real mind game that worked. Nearly 2 years. Will post when I reach that milestone. Meanwhile, I hope you stay determined to abstain.

I'm not a long time quitter but I still
wanted to post congrats on what you have
achieved Johnnie!!!

Hi Johnnie, I suppose it's not surprising really, 52 years of the same thing multiple times a day would be a hard habit to break. I did smile though, I know of someone who does the same thing and they were a long time smoker too.
I think when we are in 'auto pilot' our muscle memory kicks in.
I'm glad you have a laugh at it, I would too. Well done on the 9 months.

Go Johnnie go go! Your doing awesome. I keep thinking the same thing, this habit thing is a hard one to tackle. It's almost as if we need to reprogram or reverse brainwash ourselves in order to be free from this. Here is an article that might help, I'll give a try as well. http://www.mindpowernews.com/StopSmokingTricks.htm

Hi everyone...thank you for your thoughts and kind comments. It really does get better the longer you can remain quit, the feeling becomes more alive and the coughing and wheezing all disappears. The habit is in the sub conscious ....ok becomes annoying but not hurtful. We just laugh it off. Yes Wendy....did change profile pic...no point hiding behind the curtain on this site. We all here to give, receive and share advice. Cheers.
