Champix results and side effects

I've been on the Champix for 9 weeks now and it's definitely working. It started working around week 2 relapsed in week 3 on having half a cig and it tasted horrible and threw away the cigs after a few drags.
Loads of side effects on Champix I mean loads but in phases. First 3 -5 weeks was tough on Champix it was dreadful taking 1mg morning and 1mg at night. I've been taking them during a meal. So soon as I wake up force down me 2 wheatabix, take pill then 2 slices of toast with Jam and orange juice. It's Horrible taking it on a empty stomach you will be sick.
Depression, tired at times , 30 min stomach caps at night after taking night pill. Angry constantly, brain thinking overdrive, dry mouth , excessive wind, slight chest pai s. Heart pumping faster than normal, the craziest dreams ever, and a few more but all in phases.
The issue I have now is lack of sleep and going to bed early but that could be down to bordum and waking up at 3am. The worst i think is over and I take only 1 pill since week 7 in the morning and skip the night one as I don't need it. I took some sleeping tablets one night to see of that worked but I still woke up at 4am with a heavy head so those are pointless and best not mix the drugs.
I went off loads of things to. Alchoal, tea, Chocolate, money, s*x and all the fav things I enjoyed. But that's all coming back now. I can manage half a beer some chocolate and back on the s*x.
I ve been out with mates a few times but avoided them for 6 weeks who are all smokers which was a good time right after xmas everyone is skint. I went out for a meal during week 3 it was hard so what I did was went for the meal and left right after as they wanted to out for a few drinks etc which I couldn't stomach anyway and was still on the night dose too.
Last night was a good test being out with work meal and many drinks and usually having a smoke outside after or during a pint, but all sorted. Managed two beers and that was it done.
I have my mind back, can't say I have my taste buds back as the Champix slightly kills those. I'm going all the way to 12 weeks and more if needed as I've had enough of the smoking.
Keep busy. Buy a Nintendo 3ds or xbox to get your mind off it. Go to bed early if you have to ok you wake up early. Support from the family is important. The amount of arguments I've had I'm suprised I have any family and friends left. I've fall out with one friend which I don't care anymore as he was a nob and smoked loads so no loss there.
Keep saying sorry and remind them your heads all over the place. Take some time off work if you have to or avoid going to the office. That's only for the first few weeks. Tell work staff your on Champix. Have a laugh and tell them the side effects it shows them your serious about stopping. I've been having a bath everyday out of boredom too.
I'm eating loads now I mean loads . My sleep is a mess i.e I went to bed last night at 11.30pm which is the latest this year since on Champix as I've been going to bed at 7.30 pm most nights and woke up at 4am. It helps to get up and read the news and get back to sleep. I have really bad wind which is normal on Champix and constipated. I've not have a proper poo in weeks . I'm pooing bit not like I used to . I'd lost weight over 6 weeks as the Champix eats into your food fast.
Now I'm eating more of everything rather than a lot of one thing I.e sandwich for lunch, along with a packet of crisps, banana and water. Drink loads of water that helps you to.
What else....don't do too much that's a bad idea. Coz your minds is free I'm coming up with too much . Decorating, hunting for holidays. Working more hours. Too organised round the house. Too many ideas and more. Take it one step at a time otherwise you will stress out and others around you. The smallest thing is anoyoying me and say to yourself... Chill. Think I'm doing too much.
Get a bike and ride for 10 mins. Keep walking even if it's round the house. Do some ironing a few shirts not the whole lot. what I'm saying is do things for the same time it would take you to have a cig. Subscribe to Netflix and watch stuff you wouldn't normally like subtitle movies because your having to read.
Again short bursts and that will increase i.e you will Iron for longer . You will bike for 15 mins. Walk for 15 read for 15 watch a full movie and that will grow.
Not gonna lie it's tough. But think of the health benefits, money and your kids if they know and see you smoke as they will too when they are older.
See how long this report is because my mind is clear and some free time. And that's and all.
So good luck.
P.s Also I've not said this at the start but I was also a heavy cannabis smoker for 20 years, so not just the cig. But that's another story....
The end.

Hey NoMoreFags,
Thanks for sharing your story - it's so helpful to hear other's experiences with quitting. Especially with Champix, as this is the first time I'm trying it and I've read so many horror stories about side effects. And well done! I really hope to make it to your stage and beyond!
I've taken my first pill this morning and I've set my quit date for March 11. I haven't had any nausea as such (ate some yogurt with the pill), but I'm feeling a little 'out of it' or fazed today. Might be because I didn't get to bed until late last night, but considering the amount of possible side effects I'm having a hard time associating whether certain sensations are due to the pill or just an off day.
Anyway, I noticed your post script on cannabis, and I myself have been a long term cannabis smoker, so I'm very interested in hearing more about your quit experience in regard to champix and cannabis. Have you quit that as well? Were there any adverse side effects when smoking while on champix?
Also, you mentioned that you've lost weight - most people say they put on weight. What do you mean when you say that the champix eats into your food fast?
Hope you're open to answer some of my questions :) Have a great day, and keep up the awesome quit!
Best,
Shug

Hi Shug, yes I have quit that too. That was the main reason why I quit via the Champix just coming into week 9.
No side effects and for the cannabis I didn't set a date. I let the Champix just kill off that craving. It was 10 day's in I was not enjoying the cannabis and was making me feel sick. I thought setting a date was too much. And it's worked.
When mean but the Champix eating into my food. I would have breakfast at 7am then my morning pill by 10 am I'm hungry again. So I'm finding I'm eating more through out the day.
Champix was first invented as a weight loss in the USA but found those losing weight also lost smoke cravings and more.
Hope that explains.
You need to pass that time from skinny up and doing something else. Go to bed army if you have too.
I'm struggling with sleep still but it's getting better. I can stay up till 9pm now but still waking up at 5 or 6am. I just stay in bed till 7am reading the news on my tablet.
Last I went to bed at midnight watch boxing and here I am awake 6.30 am.
I went out for a meal a few days ago with mates and wives all smokers didn't bother me one bit. We would have ready roles if you know what I mean.
The stuff explained is down to the pill. Your brain and thoughts will be amplified on Champix, no tobacco and the cannabis. 3 slammers in one.
So the days you set of you think you still need a spliff have it because a few more days that will taste nasty. You will also relapse and role one but you won't manage it.
Do you know how much money I've saved in the 9 weeks. Don't tell the wife but I've saved over £700 that's probably $900. Mad isn't it. Ounce every 2 weeks. Plus ciggies and papers. All adds up.
I've lost interest in money too which is down to the Champix.
I'm one 1 a day now as I don't need the night pill.
I'm I'll today with a cold and virus sore throat and shivers. so I'll be skipping my morning pill which I'm confident I'll be fine but see how it goes..
Good luck.

Hi im on champix day 11 and feel like I'm going insane!, so emotional and craving a cigarette every hr or so!, i haven't stopped yet as I'm still having 2 to 3 a day!
Don't know if I'm strong enough to get through this !
I've been smoking 30 yrs and am now 44!
I need to be around for my kids and also have the money that's going up in smoke!..

Hey NoMoreFags,
Thanks so much for sharing and for answering my questions. I'm on day 10 of the pills now, and today's my quit day. I have my last cigarette planned for this afternoon, but I'm actually not that worried about it.
Cigs have basically tasted horrible over the last couple of days, and the few I've smoked are more of a 'do it while you can' rather than 'do it because you want/need it'. Same goes for the spliffs, so I don't think that'll be too much of an issue. Thanks for the advice, though - it's really helpful and nice to hear that someone has gone through the same thing. Also, cudos on saving all that money! Can't wait for me to start saving up some cash as well!
At times, it feels like I'm missing something significant, but it's not an actual craving for cigarettes. Also, the side effects haven't been that bad so far: a short pang of nausea after taking the pills (mostly with the 1mg, wasn't so bad with the 0.5 mg), and I haven't had any trouble sleeping. I do feel a little more amped up with my brain working on overdrive, but it's really just made me more productive...
When did you start experiencing trouble sleeping?
Hope you're feeling better. How did it go with not taking your morning pill?
Suzie, stay strong! Just take it one hour at a time. Do you feel any change in the way cigarettes taste or the satisfaction you get out of them? Don't do this for anyone other than yourself - otherwise you're bound to fail. Think of the money you'll be saving, the mental energy you'll be saving (always running around thinking when you'll be able to light the next one), and the health you'll get back - all things that will make time with your kids even better.

Ah preach it. Could've been me writing that but much less eloquent than yours. Champix does all of what u mentioned - it's the most unpleasant way to do it. I've actually done away with it after 2 weeks (risky, I know) but it seems to have worked. Still miss the habit like a lost loved one but each day's getting easier. It's good to hear it's helped overhaul your relationships too. What's that saying,' if you can't handle me at my worst then damned if you deserve me at my best' or something to that effect - Marilyn Monroe I think. Best wishes on the continued journey

I think at the start you do feel like you've lost your best friend or something.....once you get past that it's easier. Might take a while, but a long term habit is hard to break. Champix is my new friend. After 60 days I relapsed and I believe the main reason was that I had stopped taking the champix way too early, thinking I was ok. I weakened and I've only now got myself back on track and back on champix.
