1 week smoke free. Ups and downs

Posted in Staying quit
schedule 14 Aug 2016

I have not smoked a cigarette for one week. Does anyone else seem to come down with a fever in the first week after quitting the smokes? I felt a bit crappy during the week but I overdid it today with a 1 km swim and about a 10 km run. I'm now in bed shaking and sweating with a temperature. It doesn't bother me though, I'm still loving the fact that I'm not smoking.

Emotionally I'm a bit erratic at the moment. I cracked it at the wife and kids on Friday and needed to get away for a few hours by myself, but I didn't have a smoke.

It's early days so it's important to take it one day at a time. I'm loving reading everyone's experiences. Cold turkey is a challenge but I found it got a lot easier after 3 days.

Fight the good fight everyone and be strong.

Good on you! I have found that its quite a crazy ride too, taking time out when you need it is most important simply so you can breathe and have some peace. I find I get overwhelmed more easily.

Well done, 1 week is fantastic!! It does get easier and as long as you can get the right mindset on cold turkey, it was easier for me to quit like that than using NRT's (which I tried in the past). Once the nicotine was out of my body (48 hours) it was not so bad but those first 2 - 3 days were crazy. It does get easier, believe me and going for a run is a great distraction. I was pretty sick after the first few runs but I think that was from my lungs clearing. I sometimes get it still - 3 months on but it's quite rare. One day at a time is all you can do, until you realise it has been a fortnight and then a month and your family will put up with the grumps while you're settling into not smoking. They want what's best for you and for them, quite right too :). Let them know that a month in and your emotions will have settled considerably and you will find your sense of humour again. Keep going, you're doing brilliantly. Keep posting it's great to hear how you're doing.

I would be in cardiac arrest if I did that so don't feel to bad :)

they tell me it gets better so I am staying smoke free to find out.

good to get some time out too when needed takes time to learn to deal with things smoke free.
