Hey Everyone!

This time I've decided to quit going cold turkey, never tried it this way before, always quit and started again when I used the patches so thought it was best from the outset to just not smoke; mind over matter and all that jazz, however I gave into temptation and had 3 cigarettes over a week ago :( I hated myself so much the next day for it I am positive I will not slip up again.

I am also taking part of the stay dry July so hopefully that will help with me not smoking too. Its funny but the smell of cigarettes now makes me feel ill and I'm trying to train my brain into thinking how silly those white sticks look hanging out of someone's mouth.

Well done everyone for staying strong and keeping up the great work.

Hi Lozzlong. Like you I went cold turkey and so far have gone 308 days without smoking. Best thing ever. In the distant past I tried acupuncture and patches but only lasted three weeks. I finally gave up aged 67 and was really determined. Coming up to year one. Still can't believe it. Good luck and the support here is great. Dobbin

Hi, I too went cold turkey. I couldn't cope with patches, made my arm and hands tingle so gave it up as a bad job and continued smoking. Also tried the vapour cigs but it just made me want to smoke more. So I went cold turkey, with the help of Allen Carr's easy way to stop smoking book. I run,. I garden and I meditate. All these things helped and continue to help me. I am now 53 days smoke free (according to the log here). Keep going, you're doing splendidly. Your skin will get its colour back and your lungs will start to mend. You should be very proud of yourself. Stay stopped and the world is your oyster.

Four weeks today! I am amazed. I did cold turkey as I always returned to smoking using smoking cessation aids. It is OK and that is as positive as I can be today.....three days of "urges to smoke" has left me tired and cranky! But, I remain a "non-smoked". It was cool today when asked for "a lighter" to reply, "I don't smoke."....didn't say, "but I want to."...Ha!
