Do i stop the tablets

I am really in 2 minds whether to stop the champix as it is not getting better - every morning I am so sick when I take the tablet and it lasts for a few hours then I start to feel down. Do I stop the tablets and just keep trying cold turkey?

Hi JJ68, this is my second go with Champix and I am really nauseous if I take it on an empty stomach, so I make sure I have a big meal beforehand. I think the feeling down is not just the Champix - any lifestyle change has a grief and loss component to it in the giving up of something. See your GP if the side effects are too much, but just to let you know, my first attempt didn't succeed because I stopped taking the Champix after about 6 weeks and when I weakened and had a smoke I got the biggest head spin - hooked again :-( I find not getting that hit while on Champix is what (so far) is keeping me nicotine free. Good luck.

Hi JJ68 the sick feeling and vomiting is common,my husband found that if he had a biscuit or something light helped. it's tough.
I was on the patches for 2 weeks, couldn't stand the itch so went cold turkey. I had the vivid dreams as well so it's not the champix. my Dr said it was withdrawals . I am now 170 days free and have saved $3,567.00 Altering your day is the answer such as I always made a coffee went outside and had a ciggie and because it was sooooogood I would repeat the procedure, now make a coffee and catch up with emails and watch the news. Every time I did something , clean the loo, clean the kitchen etc I would reward myself with a ciggie,,,,need I go on. I keep myself busy ,I feel better,I smell better,I can taste better It's not easy but so worth it I am doing this for me no one else me me is so important,,only me can change a habit… good luck

Hi JJ68 I tried twice with the champix too, felt really nauseous and had heart palpitations! Apparently the depression is not good and champix interferes with dopamine levels in your body! I ended up buying oral strips from a place called quit4good. It cost me $200 for 25 days. They were fantastic no side effects and hardly any cravings even though they are nicotine free! I had been smoking a pack a day for over 35 years. I was amazed that I could do it so easily. I have done everything from champix, hypnosis, quit courses, patches, acupuncture etc....Of course it's still a bit of a challenge but the strips were the best thing I've tried! Good luck on your journey!

I am 2 months in on Champix, and still get nauseous if i take them on an empty tummy - try taking them half way through breakfast and dinner, or eat a banana before taking them - also avoid taking them with any other meds(at the same time).
Reduce booze if you drink, and take them early in the evening to reduce the dreams, and always follow with a glass of liquid - tea water etc, and this really helps..
Champix on an empty tummy really sucks..
It works though, not for everyone, but if you can tolerate it, it is worth it.
The depression and sadness is something most people get when giving up smoking - like grieving for a passed friend.., but one of the major reasons people give up the champix is depression, so if its serious - see your GP..
Good Luck!

I've done chantix before, hated the dreams and down feeling and this time went straight up cold turkey- day 16 and so glad to be done with the nicotine craving part. the struggle is real those first 5 days, but SO worth it once you are done. like ripping a band aid off fast, except that first week goes slow. I HAD to excersise every day to fend the cravings off. a sauna sitting to sweat it out is good too. drink lots of water too! you can do it.
