My new car

Well, here I am...456 days since a smoke and still going. The dreams about taking them back up again have finally stopped and the only thing I struggle with is being around people that smoke. I find the smell is still nice and it use to make me want one, but finally that is also going away.

Last week, I bought myself a new car. I sold my boat, traded my old car and paid the balance in cash from the money I have saved from not smoking. Now, I am driving a nice VE Calais and the best part? I own it!!!!

Went to a Doctor for a hearing test last week and had to fill in a questionnaire. It asked if I smoked and it was nice to write "NO". When the Doctor asked me a few questions, he asked if I have ever smoked and I said yes, I have been off them for almost 18 months. He replied "that is the smartest thing you have done in your life".

I am hoping that this story can help others "get off the smokes". It is hard, and you have to fight urges but hey, what a feeling when you finally can say "I am off those things".

My life is different now, I don't have to try and sneak a smoke in at work or rush outside the airport to have a smoke...yep...life is a whole lot better :-)

Wow, what a great story. Really, very happy for you. I will be 7 weeks free of them tomorrow. I am so looking forward to be able to come back here to tell everyone it's been 12 or 18 months. Oh yes, what a feeling! Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Thank you Bronte & Jojie.

You are doing well Bronte, if you have made it through 7 weeks you have the made it through the hardest part. It won't be long and you can be proud like me and say "have been off them for 12 months".

I found rewarding myself was one thing that kept me going. It is easy to just spend the money on day to day things and you never really see anything. Spoil yourself for being good, you deserve it :-)

I was a heavy smoker (more than a pack a day) and smoked since I was very young. The main reason I quit was for my health, not for the money but I have enjoyed using the money on nice things instead of blowing it away in smoke. Funny thing though, I went to a medical back in 2012 and had my lungs checked. The nurse said "you are a smoker, and have smoked for a long time. For a smoker, your lung capacity is quite good. Have you considered giving them up?". I knew from that day, I needed to get serious before someone tells me "you should have given them up, now it is too late".

I urge anyone that reads this to do the same. For yourself, family and your friends, get off those things and you will never look back.
