Champix and my side affects. All good so far

Posted in Staying quit
schedule 31 Jan 2015

I started taking Champix on January 12th 2015. By the 22nd I had completely stopped smoking.  The urges are zero to minimal since stopping.  It is only nine days since my last smoke. Previous attempts using patches, cold turkey etc have always been a huge struggle with withdrawals for the first couple of weeks.  I'm not even a raging psychopath this time around.

The side affects such as a slight nauseous feeling that lasts about 15-20minutes is worth it for the long term benefits of quitting.   I was docile for the first couple of weeks after starting the course. This has gradually subsided. In fact I feel pretty cruisy considering I am not smoking

I have been on BP medication for the past 15 years and in this last week my Bp has dropped to a point where my medications have been virtually halved.  This alone is worth the perseverance of the Champix.   I had tried many, many times over the years to stop smoking without success.  I'm hoping the Champix path will be the final nail for the smokes forever.

Good on you!!

schedule 1 Feb 2015

I am very happy for you and the progress you are making. I am on day 3 of Champix and strangely enough, the smokes no longer seem to have that "kick" they used to. Luckily no side effects so far.

I truly wish you the best for your quit journey

schedule 1 Feb 2015

Hi Feelingood, well done! I was on champix for a couple of weeks but didn't feel right so stopped taking it. I am now 56 days smoke free and believe had I not of taken it I wouldn't have succeeded as tried so many times over 30 years and this time seem to have cracked it so far. Once I got through the first 2/3 weeks I haven't looked back and rarely think about smoking anymore, and if I do it's only for a second. Keep up the good work as it really does get easier. All the best

Well done FeelinGood and FingersX !!! I started Champix for about the 3rd time, over the past few years, on Jan 31st...My quit date was Feb 14th.. I actually quit Feb 4th.. So after smoking for the past 45yrs, I'm calling myself a non smoker now and proud of it.. I think I may go off Champix very soon and stick with commitment and willpower!!! Congratulations to all who are quitting and to those who have already quit :-)
