Staying motivated

Hello comrades in mindset against this habit. Thank you so much for your memos to me, I realised I really was not doing this alone. I made it to 1 day! That was hard for me to stay committed and when I struggled and nearly weakened I wanted to write to you all but didn't because I thought I might turn this support group into a Dear dell. All sorts of stupid thoughts, how I really liked smoking, how it's too late the damage is probably done. All those thoughts went through my mind but how I coped was this. I read these articles of yours, drank water as one person suggested and I persisted. I am going to do this again today and make it my 2nd day of success. Thanks guys.
fran

Well Fran, as you say, some damage may be done, but by giving up you will stop any further damage. I smoked for 53 years, and yes I have done some damage, but I've been off the smokes for 585 days now and I'm feeling great, to say nothing of how our bank balance has grown.
So stick with it Lady and resist the temptations, and there will be a few you need to fight, it will all be worth it believe me.

Hi Fran
Im on day 2 as well. I wrote today (storybooks, as also journal)and took a leaf out of your page in taking to drinking water. Way to go Fran. Yes, it can be tempting to do the Dear Dorothy D when the cravings come on strong. Im off a swim soon in this glorious weather where I am :)

Hi Fran. I love this site as Bill44 and Converse obviously do. We are all considerable time non smokers but frequently still appear online. I find it similar to AA and am always rejuvenated after contact, so if it helps to relate your problems we are all interested and supportive.

Coming on helps me to continue on my journey. We all have our doubts but I think it is a part of the process... like losing an old friend (even if they are a bad influence you still miss them)

One day at a time Fran. A good mindset helps and each day you succeed will make you stronger. It's not an easy journey but I remind myself that there is NO upside to smoking even though those nicotine demons trick us into believing there are.
All the best, keep posting

Hi Fran, well done getting through the first, hardest, day. You'll get those irrational niggling voices of addiction in your head for a while, but you are so much stronger than they are! And I don't think it matters if you post when you are going through a craving, the craving will probably be over by the time you write it all down, and some one on this site will be inspired and encouraged by how you coped with it. All the best, stay strong.

Hi fran,
I agree this site is great, I am at day 23 now Cold Turkey, cold water & distraction has worked for me this time.
I am going to post anytime I get a strong craving as it is a distraction.
Good Luck on your quit quest
