Can i?

Posted in Staying quit
schedule 2 Jan 2014

Hi i fell off the rails and have now decided to get back on them.

I have my second lot of Champix, the pharmacy said i can take them but i have to quit and not smoke from day one. Has anyone else done this? They said it might make me sick but thats nothing different with Champix.

Hi Mgahl,

When you say you have your second lot do you mean weeks 5 to 12? I ask because I was under the belief that you can give up any time during the treatment i.e., up to week 12. After the initial 12 weeks the doctor may prescribe an additional 12 weeks to ensure your success with giving up. Have you discussed this with your Doctor? If your not comfortable with the nausea that accompanies the Champix maybe you could look at other options like NRT or even herbal treatments now available on the internet which apparently have a high success rate in helping people quit the addiction. Hypnotherapy is another option and it is scientifically proven as the most successful treatment in giving up the cigarettes. It is also guaranteed if you do happen to slip up. What ever you decide I am sure you will get there as you obviously have the 'want' to give up. Good luck! You can do it!

Thank you William for your kind words and advice :)

fancy not stopping smoking with the first lot of champix you have to look deep into yourself and say do i really want to quit if the answer is yes then you will do it otherwise you are just wasting your time oh well i hope you can quit this time round if not you can always blame the champix goodluck and all the best.

MgahlEather you cant let comments from vampire internet trolls take the wind out of your sails. Stopping smoking takes whatever it takes and everyone's experience is going to be different. (It took me 20 years and numerous attempts at stopping before I succeeded!) I recognize the negative misery loving company tune of stoprightnow all to well, which compelled me to address yet another instance of a pathetic attempt from a life sucking vampire at sabotaging someones success. Encouragement and support is what we need. You will stop smoking :)

schedule 2 Jan 2014

MgahEather,

focus on your quitting, it is very common to have several attempts, I came so so close to smoking again, ( did one month on Champix, nausea was awful). I wanted to be in control. Anyhow it can be a tough road, can bring up many emotions in us, and say thing we do not mean, I have. Keep posting here I want you to succeed and look forward to congratulating you on your success in the coming weeks.

Hi Mgah,

I agree with Converse. You wouldn't be here if you didn't want to quit. I also have had several attempts at giving up. Gave up for ten years then took up smoking for 5 years. My latest and final attempt (because this time i'm going to win) sees me 7 weeks smoke free on the Champix. Not an easy road with nausea, lack of sleep, forgetfulness and irritability. I came close to ditching them and going cold turkey. I persevered though and things have settled with sleep returning to normal and only the occasional bout of nausea which never lasts longer than 10 minutes tops. Keep up the good work and like Converse said keep posting and keep visiting the site if not for anything else but to draw inspiration from others on the same journey as yourself. Looking forward to hearing how you are progressing over the coming weeks. It can only get better from here. Good luck!
