Slipped but hope to avoid fall.

36 days smokefree then slipped up at a party with old school buddies Alcohol and the usual vices Had 3 smokes. But did not buy a pack and am determined.not to relapse. Should I start my count again from zero.or is one slip forgivable? Help!

hi iim 51 days and have slipped for 2 days so what i do i say im 49 days i take those 2 days out i find it helps that way you have punished youself with taking the days away but mist people who are quitting usually slip every now and then so dont start again just keep going good luck

I have tried to avoid drinking since giving up 22 days ago as I always smoked heavily after a couple of drinks. One night I forgot that rule ( rebelliously) & smoked an entire pack myself with wine!
I still count my quit date as the day I began giving up, as this motivates me far more than punishing myself.
Sounds like the party with school buddies made you act a little like you did as a teen ;-) Hahah!
You deserve to be VERY proud that you did not buy a packet that night! Well done! That is fantastic!
Three cigs is not a "relapse" - just a moment of alcohol fuelled forgetfulness... So keep on identifying as a non-smoker....

Thanks chookie84. I will penalise myself 6 days - 1 per cigarette plus the 3 it will take to flush out the nicotine.

Yeah Balimama it was the alcohol and the throwback to the old "I am indestructible" day. Well I know I am not indestructible that's why I want to quit but how to avoid future slips? I do like a drink.

your very welcome and if u think of it this way to your 36 days smoke free but u say in 36 days u have had 3 but if u were not quiting how many have u not smoked if u understand that dont beat urself up just keep going as of the drinking not sure as ive avoided the drinking too hope u find something that helps

Day 2 & I'm very grumpy & had a terrible sleep last night I also feel tearful too - Hope this will pass as I smoked over half a packet on the weekend after a 2 week break, so just really disappointed I need to start over again..Ah well I'm sure the cravings will get better in a few days...Will try for a dry October too I'm sure that will help

I have applied my penalty so am 32 days smokefree. This feels the right balance. I pay a price for my slip up which I do not want to repeat, buy do not write off all the hard work in quitting particularly the first tough week cold turkey. Thanks for your support it really helps and now I do it day by day.

Smokey I purchased a homeopathic product from a health food store called "Smoke eze" - a few sprays of this under my tongue really helped me in the the early days. I still use it when something happens which makes me want to sedate my emotions with a ciggerette. 0
As smokers we've unconsciously used smoking as a way of numbing our emotions, so little wonder we feel emotional when we finally begin to lift off the "smoke-screen"!
On the positive side, I am feeling so much more energetic. Yeahaa!
